Hi guys!
Finally, here comes the backhand drive. That means next videos will be about loop!
There are so many things and every little details that I want to share to help you improve your stroke and games.
Yet, it is always challenging to include everything in the video. However, I will try my best to point out big and small things that can help.
Backhand drive is, I have to say, very important technique that you need to understand, practice and master in order to become a great backhand looper and/or puncher. Understanding the efficiency of energy transfer to the ball on the backhand drive is essential. It's never enough no matter how much I emphasize the importance of fundamentals of simple strokes.

Great video! At 5:50 BH combination of arc from pivot at the elbow and forward extension of the arm creates an ellipse. Never heard it explained like that before. Visualizing this and realizing the contact point is on the flattest part of the ellipse where the bat has the maximum forward momentum. As Ma Long clearly shows us! Thanks so helpful. :-)

Sir, this ellipse formation is vertical and not by side as from video i am able to visualize whether the ellipse formation is in vertical shape or in horizontal shape. from vertical i mean up and down and from horizontal i mean left to right. i think your ellipse shape will be vertical. while practicing what is recommended i mean whether we just keep forward motion are to try ellipse in backhand drive. if we are making ellipse then still it will be called as backhand drive or it will be called as topspin style. further to your quoted words Quote: "Visualizing this and realizing the contact point is on the flattest part of the ellipse where the bat has the maximum forward momentum" Unquote: what do u mean by flattest part of the ellipse and what is maximum forward momentum. please explain.

Good luck! As long as you remember the efficiency of the stroke which is to apply the force forward, you will have great technique!

I think its a interestig discussion whether or not to use your wrist as a fundamental technique. When watching slow motion of professionals in play, they seem to prefer the whipping motion to get that extra force transferred to the ball, but everyone locks their wrist during warmup drills and such.

Great insight. We must go back to the fundamental question. The quality of the ball is speed and spin, excluding placement for now. And the factors that influence these two qualities of the ball is angle of the paddle, swing trajectory and swing speed at the contact which I plan to explain in a separate video. But to increase the spin and the speed on the ball is to increase/maximize the swing speed at the contact. We can achieve it when we whip. During warmup, we don’t use 100% but maybe 20% therefore it is a very small whip under control.

Plz also do a video on smooth footwork while playing. Whenever I get placed in forehand side my shot doesn't contain any power but only mild spin from forehand because I can't do footwork properly to my forehand side..

There you rotate your hips for the loop. But if you wanna do a punch backhand you have to kind of "pop" your right hip ahead to hit right in front of you right ? That's how I see it and got it through ti long videos and others but I would have liked to get your opinion on that. I'm a coach and I'm very interested in those weight transfer for BH as we never talk about it in my club.

When I do backhand drive/loops I often hit the "back" part of the racket, (where the speed is slower). Is this a common mistake? Could it be because im closing too much my racket angle? Have you seen this mistake b4?

When you said “back” part of your racket do you mean closer to the handle on your paddle?

@@roadtopro3038 No, the "back" part that I mean is that part we hit when we do a no-spin serve. For example: pingsunday.com/wp-content/uploads/best-contact-point-for-forehand-topspin-500x395.jpg It always hits on 3,1 | 2,1 contact point when I try to loop/drive (so the ball loses a lot of power) and makes a "hitting" sound instead of brushing

Sir, in backhand drive, only forward motion is to be done or some elbow rotation will also be done while making rally.

Elbow rotation is to create the brush(topspin). You can use that or use body(legs) to get that upward motion to give brush as you extend your arm. Either is fine!

Great coaching. I'm almost 2200 in table tennis (self taught) and I'm a tennis pro. Any suggestions in how to eliminate some of my forehand high elbow preparation when I'm on a stretch and how to change direction with my body without losing stability? In tennis everything comes so natural to me but in table tennis everything feels so constructed and mechanical. Thanks

Sir, waiting for backhand loop vide. i want to play loop in front of stomach not from side position, is it possible. as when i shifted to left side to create loop and opponent return the ball at forehand side then i become hard to tackle from my forehand. Please guide on this issue also.

Being able to play the in front is due to the elbow position. If you keep the elbow a little away from your body, you will be able to create space in front.

You can start practicing with only relaxed muscles and once you get used to the motion and can put some loop in your ball then you try to tighten right when your rubber hits the ball to make her roll on him. But that's an everyday work and it's really hard to master. That's not a beginner thing

@@prabhakarsingh-et8xl hard to tell without watching but it probably is footwork. You prolly have difficulties to get as much power from your legs. + It is a different bodyweight transfer so if you focus on your FH then suddenly switch to BH then you have lots and lots of error that you can do with your legs, feet and hips that will make your shot less powerfull or less spinny. Only way is training. Do some FH rally with a partner and he can switch to BH whenever he wants and you have to go for a BH. Care about everything, perfect and repeat over and over

(usually we train from BH to FH cause this is what we do most in matches but you can train both if you want. There is also this exercise where your partner puts a ball in the middle then one BH or FH then one middle, .... . This is really good for consistency in matches too. That's pretty much all I can say I never saw a video about that ATM so ... Gl & hf

Is it Zone 1 or 2 in 1:58? Is this a topspin stroke swing at the table? in the 5 zones lesson, you said that a loop against underspin should be done from Zone 2. since you stepped back for the loop against underspin here the Zone in 1:58 shoud be Zone 1, right? in the 5 zones video You did not mention a zone for the normal drive stroke (no to littles topspin). For a normal drive stroke, zone 2(close to the table) is good. Then you can vary it by going to zone 3 and see if you still have good control. It’s little tricky. I prefer to have players stand in zone 2 to loop for forehand but backhand is like 2.5 between zone 2 and 3. Because we need some space since we are hitting the ball in front us. This stroke was backhand loop for underspin. And 1:58 is zone 2 - backhand drive. Zone 1 is for short balls where you need to step in and under the table to reach. I hope this explains.

Sir, i am practicing BH as per your video. i have lot some control but there are some doubt and question, whether i am doing right or wrong. presently i want to know how to increase the power in backhand and 2nd is this style is excellent and while doing rally i am able to perform it but when playing matching same style is not coming. what to do so that same may come when playing match.
