Roark is an absolute non-dualist. He will not allow himself to be dictated by the society. And he will not allow himself to be dictated by his own bodily concerns either. Roark has the purest ego possible and the purest ego possible is what you call as Truth or Atma. That's how Roark lives; as ego purified. Aham distilled; not corrupted at all. They are dualists. To them the world matters too much. They get hurt by the world. Roark does not get hurt by the world. Roark is not a cynic. He abides in the Atma and he knows that he will triumph. What comes may come, I'm not deterred. I know who I am, I know what I am doing, I'll pass through everything. When you are vulnerable, it is some kind of cynicism. Roark says "One can actually lead a truthful life, and I'm leading it. I'm leading it, come what may" When you let the world become too important for yourself, that is what will happen. You will surrender to the world. If you will bother so much about the world, the world will become your god. You'll have to surrender to it. To Keating only the world matters "A thing is good if people say it is good. A thing is bad if people say it is bad."
