It was Dianne's birthday and lighting up the fireside provided lots and lots of happiness. We cooked duck, roasted fish, did some geera pork and a roast pepper chokha along with dhal and rice. It was refreshing to cook outdoors in Erin once again. Everything about that day was wonderful. Enjoy.

Great video, primrose fruit are mostly eaten by fruit bats at night, we had one when growing up and its rare we got fruits but the fruit is very sweet in taste and smell.

Ever noticed that outdoor cooking has a POSITIVE EFFECT on moods? So much joy and laughter and togetherness generated by fireside meals which doesn't happen as often when cooking indoors on a gas or electric stove. Tons of rich content for our Foreign Friends and Fellow Trinidadians and West indians who've been away for a long time; I'll jump randomly into it as details come to mind. Brilliant idea by 'Sana on doing a video on lighting an outdoor 🔥 🪵🪓. Not everyone has this skill, especially when it comes to "turning up and down the heat" 😅. Those ants aren't crazy at all, notice they stuck around even though they were on a burning branch? They were there to save their fellow ants who gave off a scent when they died. So they ran to the rescue not away even though their own life was in danger! Heroic indeed! 👍 The Female Hindi Neighbor named - SUMATI - was mentioned. In Sanskrit, "SU" means GOOD, and "MATI" means MIND or THOUGHT; together we get - A GOOD MINDED PERSON, or A PERSON WITH GOOD THOUGHTS. ✨ An apt French Word was used which sounded like: "MAY-LAY"; it comes from the FRENCH VERB - MÊLER - which is pronounced EXACTLY AS WAS DONE in this video, and it means - TO MIX! Precisely what was done by placing all ingredients in in one pot, and then mixing them up to create a delicious meal! 😋 Lots of charring and roasting of aromatics in this video, and this technique brings out DEPTH OF FLAVOR by creating SWEETNESS AS WELL AS SMOKINESS in the SPICES AND SEASONINGS. If I pull together all of my research, I'd have to conclude that the technique of ROASTING FISH WITH SCALES came from our Trinidadian Amerindian Heritage as I've seen the Native People's of Brazil do the exact same thing! Erin is a town where Amerindians landed by canoe 🛶 from mainland South America, and the technique would have been passed on during their TRADING VISITS with the people who lived in Erin. A symbol of Friendship for certain. 🫂 There are just so many uses for Bamboo, and Uncle Bean underscored this in detail when he shared what Mom passed down to him as regards BBQ. 👏 Uncle Bean also shared a joke about someone eating a - Soharee Leaf or Sohari Leaf. In East Indian (and South American) Weddings and Religious Occasions such as Pujas (Prayers), etc., the Soharee Leaf or Sohari Leaf is used as a plate. The brilliance of this is that it's ECO-FRIENDLY, and can be discarded without harming the environment as does PLASTIC AND STYROFOAM UTENSILS!👍✨👏 Finally, I'll close by proudly sharing another Hindi Word that was used in this video; it's: Kulchal or Culchal which means - Ladle Spoon - and it was needed when time came to spoon out the Dhal or Daal. The only thing missing from this video is MY LONG WOODEN BENCH, but I'm confident it'll turn up one of these good days. 😂 Keep the family Vibes and Love flowing; cup after cup after cup. ❤️
