Anti squat/anti dive is a concept that only applies under acceleration. It has less application (some, but less) then people like think. It’s overdrive (or underdrive in the rear, ultimately the same thing, a difference in gearing between front and rear axles) that is causing the suspension compression. The front wheels are spinning faster, ie the front axle is trying to drive away, faster than the rear axle. Because the front is moving away faster the entire truck “stretches” and the suspension compresses. When you put an overdriven truck in reverse the opposite will happen, the front axle pushes towards the rear and the suspension will fully unload, standing up like a stinkbug. The effect isn’t noticed that often because so many people run droop or at least have their front set to droop. Because the truck is already compressed it isn’t visible on those setups.

Love this rig!?! This guy knows what he's doing. In suspension geometry, gearing, custom mods (i.e. cut n shuts and bed), as well as some killer paint jobs. I bet this guy has been in the hobby for quite a while. You typically see those highly detailed style of paint jobs from the R/C racing community. Take notes folks. This is how you set up a line slayer. I've said it once, and I'll say it again. You lose a lot of control when you one hand wheel. This type of wheeling requires the utmost attention to tire placement and throttle input. Not easily done when filming and one hand wheeling. This is my favorite rig you've showcased on Roastin Rigs. It's pretty much a scaled down version of a 1/10 Rock Pirates PW LCG/cheater rig. West Desert Wheeler is making some decent coin on 1/10 cut n shuts. This cat might consider selling some 67mm Tusk to the comp community.
@radioactivescalerc8 күн бұрын
The shocks comprssing at slow crawl is low speed compression, the smother forward power,combined with the load to the shocks they are forced to compress due to the forse of the axles wanting to move. thats how i understand it.
@nathanross54068 күн бұрын
Not exactly. It’s the overdrive. Since the front tires are going faster than the rear

Antisquat doesn't exist on a crawler, there's not enough moment of acceleration for the rear end geometry to push the front down(like a drag/racecar), the exact opposite is happening all the time on a slow moving vehicle like a crawler. The rear axle is always pulling the top links away from the front, thus trying to pull the skid up and away. The OD is doing most of the work here, as the front axle upper links are pushing toward the rear of the chassis, while the lower pull the skid forward and down. Boomslang Suspension Suss KZbin has a very good video on it.

Cut N shuts have been a thing for a long time in the 1/10 world. Cool to see someone do it for the 1/24’s even though it’s a slightly different situation by not making the wheel size bigger. Ive been wanting to try that with trenchers, might have to now 😎
@nathanross54068 күн бұрын
It still makes the overall size of the tire bigger. And with all the 1.2 and 1.3 wheels that are out there you could actually do it and increase the wheel size too

What's going on with front suspension 12:45 is related to the instant center or also known as anti-squat anti-dive ratio there are calculators and formulas used for setting up four link suspensions used in real four-wheel drives available on the internet quite easily. Adjusting the angles and separation changes the way the vehicle reacts underbreaking or power.

He has a lot of over drive. That's what causes it to suck down like that. The front tires are stretching the wheelbase out on throttle. If you go in reveres it will have to opposite effect. It will extend the shocks amd shorten the wheelbase.

It takes a 1.9 tire and adds a section to make it into a 2.2 tire but keeping the narrow width of the 1.9 size tire. 2.2’s are generally super wide but lately some companies like proline have been making 2.2 LP tires do on their hyrax. The 2.2 LP hyrax is exactly what you get when you cut and shut a 1.9.
