For the second time in his career, four-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement on social media. His agent Drew Rosenhaus did tell Adam Schefter that in his opinion Gronk might be able to be convinced to comeback midseason by Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe react to Gronk’s retirement.

I don't think Brady puts people "in the doghouse" from a spiteful standpoint. I think he definitely does it if something obviously isn't clicking. If Gronk has a couple rough games, Brady has the skill and football intelligence to move parts around to switch to a different strategy. And then he'll work that stuff out off the field with the player. And then 2 games later, when the other team thinks Gronk is just there for blocking, they flip the switch and the other team is left reeling.

Gronk is the only complete tight end that we have listed. He can one on one block most pro bowl defensive ends and put up numbers with the best of them like Kelce and Gonzo…. That’s why everyone was so blown away by Kittle, he’s blocking ability and his catching ability. People that just watch the game do not understand how important that is. If you have to sub out to a blocking tight end you’re basically telling the defense what you’re about to do, and at the pro level tricking the opponent is more important than talent Because everyone is talented
@dp233332
@dp233332 Жыл бұрын
correct...the thing is Kittle isnt as dominant as a blocker nor as a receiving weapon...Skip and Shannon arent entirely wrong about Gronk not being evasive enough to stay healthy at times, but what theyre not acknowledging is that Gronk was the go to weapon of an annually top tier dominant pass heavy offense that was an annual SB contender for most of his career...that center spotlight driving force role and his greatness at it, the fact that if opponents didnt contain/stop him 1 way or another theyd lose and the Pats would maybe win the SByr after yr, put Gronk in a far more dangerous position than TEs normally find themselves in...Also worth noting is the fact that the Pats rarely if ever had a true deep threat while Gronk was on the field...Safetys facing the Chiefs have mever been able to focus entirely upon T.Kelce because of how dangerous T.Hill was. It will be an entirely different, more dangerous and challenging situation for Kelce next season now that those safeties wont have to sprint backwards on every play and can actually make doubling him their top priority week after week...Players like Edelman and Welker are ideal secuity blankets for a QB like Brady but fans dont realize the impact WRs who can stretch the field like Hill or Randy Moss have on all their offensive teammates...it completely alters the dynamics and serve as a security blanket for every skill position teammate...Juju is a good WR but he will never be the weapon Hill was in KC and even if Mahomes and he prove to be great as a downfield connection he will never have that same impact...

Gronk would not have been able to get the stats he had if he played in a way to avoid injury. Gronks style of play was more physical than other TEs (Ex. Gonzalez), and it worked wonders when he was on the field. Not so much off. Injuries were near impossible to avoid playing like he did. He's up there amongst the greats though. I think Gronk is really done this time! He is one of the best TEs in history. His body forced him to retire and that's ok He is a hall of famer

hes the best TE ever not just one of...he was arguably the most dangerous weapon in the entire nfl from 2011-2017...name the other TEs and compare them some may have been faster or may have better career totals but none were as completely dominant-most of them were not great blockers Gronk was so good at blocking he not only held his own against T.Guggs he on at least 1 occasion Gronk cleared a path 1on1 against the all pro 330+lb Ravens NT Haloti Ngata. If Gronk had stayed healthy hed own every record a TE can lay claim to and would have surpassed Tonys career totals without playing anywhere near as many games/for as many seasons...

@@dp233332 Gronks in that top 3. Probably second to Gonzalez. I don't wanna hear "most dominant TE" for this small stretch. "Most dominant TE" until he gets hurt. Gronks not #1. He's one of the greatest though.

@@dp233332 Yeah you're right. Tony wasn't anything like Gronk. Tony actually played in almost all of his games. At least Tony was there to play lol.

@@nicholas104 yea he played and lost and was never that great no1 neeeded to stop him in order to beat kansas city or atlanta including in order to end tonys season...gronk on the other hand singlehandedly took over games including during the playoffs and despite playing in nowhere near as many games as tony did he managed to produce more 100+yr receiving games in his career than tony did while also being an exponentially better blocker...tony wasnt ever that good he simply played forever so he has the largest totals and its obvious u dont understand football at all because theres a huge difference between being a te who isnt even the oppositions top def priority like tony was and being arguably the most dangerous weapon in the entire nfl for the overwhelming majority of ones career...he also achieved more statistically by the time he had played in 2-3playoff games than tony did in his entire postseason career combined. Even his last 3 seasons on the field while gronk was well past his prime hes still averaged more yards per catch for the last 3 yrs than tony did for his career🤣
