phuturephunk…it's not a true assault rifle because there's no fully automatic reciprocating bolt…its semi auto. If people could buy an AR-15(M4) with a fire selector for full auto then yes you could call it an assault weapon. The ones available to the public are no different than say a ruger 10/22; SEMI auto. If you're going to throw the civilian AR into the mix its like saying: root beer is the same as beer. They're both brewed… well no its not the same is it? one has a very different process and one is quiet a lot more dangerous than the other. so no it's not an assault rifle. this rifle has no more capability to assault anything or anyone more or less than any other gun…its a gun, it throws little metal rocks really really fast and causes considerable damage to whatever it hits. People are just obsessed with the image of the gun i guess? If you take the quad rails off of AR's and make the stock wooden it looks like any other rifle…if its the form that makes it an assault weapon then bb guns that are shaped like AR's are also assault weapons…we need to stop the assault bb gun epidemic in this country!!!!!

All you have to do is look up statistics of deaths from assault weapons vs literally just about any other kind of weapon. The statistics don't suggest it's any particularly realistic threat. That should be the end of the argument but for some reason it's not. I think the last statistic I looked up from NY was 5 rifle deaths in a year. The problem with marketing is that it works. People see an image of a black gun with a stock and rails and think it's an unstoppable force all of sudden.

The real problem the government doesn't want to admit to is a reason why they want to outlaw weapons like the AR-15 just because they are able to be modified fairly easily with drill press and a few parts that you can purchase online although highly illegal it's not hard to modify your lower receiver to drill the proper size hole exactly 500 thousands of an inch north of dead center of the safety selector switch and Mill off some material on the inside of the receiver so a few dollars worth of Parts can be installed into the lower receiver now as far as the bolt carrier yes some AR-15s do have what is referred to as a neutered bolt carrier the bottom of it has been milled off so wouldn't trip in Auto Sear but not all manufacturers use this bolt carrier because it is lighter and causes jams and feed issues so yes if you buy certain AR-15s you do have a full auto bolt carrier already and if you don't you can also order one of those online ...... Just putting that out there this is also intended just for educational purposes only because Manufacturing of a fully automatic weapon after 1986 without a tax stamp which is impossible to get has a minimum sentence of 10 years imprisonment but with that also being said if shit ever hit the fan do you really think the civilian public that has the know-how is going to care about a federal law this is what scares the government ...... The only parts missing on a good quality AR-15 to make it a fully automatic is a full auto Sear the auto sear pin the spring and the know-how on some cheaper models you might have to replace the bolt carrier itself to an M16 bolt carrier and the trigger but all of these parts can be purchased online for under a couple hundred bucks a few hand files a End Mill bit and a small bench top drill press that's all you need

There are hundreds of semi-automatic weapon variants that can fire just as rapidly as an AR15 in many different calibers some of which are even more powerful. He's ridiculously stupid and uninformed on this topic and continues to prove it almost every day by standing on the graves of the children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Assault weapons... Military grade weapons are illegal and have been for years! I am ok with the ban on military grade weapons without military grade training but a semi auto rifle is not a military grade weapon! These "Assault weapons" only account for about 2.5% of gun deaths. Why is the focus on these? The problem is society, the crazy, ill and criminal culture that leads to murders and deaths involving firearms. Also, their hit on video games making people violent, bullshit. I have played some of the most violent video games known to man and do i want to replicate what i do in these games? hell no! Why? because i was raised right because i was taught what is right and wrong and socially acceptable. But do not take away my right to defend myself, my family and my country for the crazies and psychos who will break the laws and obtain illegal weapons to do harm.

A surprisingly high number of criminals handed in weapons

And in the US where gun sales have skyrocketed the last few years, violent crime including homicide has also fallen.
@idontcare095311 жыл бұрын
you can't really compare the crime rates in the us and the uk fairly, as the us only defines violent crime as murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, whereas the uk defines violent crime as "all crimes against the person" including simple assaults, all robberies, and all “sexual offenses"

Rifles are used in 350 homicides a year. A fraction of those homicides are with "assault rifles". No one ever brings that up.

Right, but it doesn't ban all weapons with the same fire rate. It bans the ones that are scary to her. It also specifically exempts hundreds of guns that would fall under the ban. It's all silly to me.

They're not talking about banning semi-auto rifles. They're only talking about banning the scary looking ones. Also, most crimes are committed with semi-auto handguns.

So since it's not mentioned in the 2nd Amendment, people should not have the right to use guns to defend themselves or go hunting...only to fight tyranny, I'm totally with that.

There will never be another Assault Weapons Ban in the US. It was a non-starter from the beginning. It it ever does get passed someday it will not survive a legal challenge. With the Heller decision and others (US v Miller, McDonald v Chicago) supporting not only individual gun rights but the right to whatever gun and magazine a law abiding person chooses, as it should be in a free country. Why are people still debating this and calling for bans instead of looking for ways to keep our kids safe?

I wish he would have said "No I don't agree with an assault weapons ban because it's unconstitutional" I think he would have if he knew he wouldn't be discriminated against in Hollywood. Which he would be. He would probably have a hard time getting more jobs after saying something like that. For his situation I think he did well on explaining some of the idiocy of a gun ban.

Seriously? Handguns are used in 96.5% of gun homicides in the US (or almost two-thirds of homicides). "Assault weapons" are used in less than one tenth of one percent of gun homicides in the US. Please get informed, guys.

The Constitution doesn't talk about self defense. It talks about a 'well-regulated militia'.

Ask the Koreans in Los Angeles who fended off attacks by using assault rifles in 1992 during the 6-day riots if there is ever a need for these kind of weapons. Maybe you’ll get your answer. The difference between assault rifles and semi-auto hunting rifles is purely cosmetic. Yes they look intimidating and are deadly, but sometimes you may want to simply show such a weapon to scare off numerous attackers.

My question was essentially what would you do - if you had the capacity to stop or nullify the 'tyrants' you mentioned' - you simply said The "ease of access" = LIBERTY'' and then asked me a question....i take that as 'there is no need for a change' and all is well....is that the case or am i really off base here?

Why can't Piers wrap his head around the fact that property confiscation is offensive to Americans? I would imagine many British were upset too.

If banning a product makes it go away, why does the world have such a huge illegal drug problem?

@Harry Peterson Austria has loads of guns but very little violent crime. Mexico has very strict gun laws and yet leads the world in homicides.
@ubiquitousdiabolus5 жыл бұрын
@Harry Peterson Getting the entire world to actively enforce any law is virtually impossible, and even if gun manufacturing stopped 100%, it wouldn't affect the billion or so guns already in world circulation

Yes, In the u.s. there is a lot of responsible gun owners that own guns, they also own assault weapons. But 90% of crime using guns are hand guns not assault weapons. Look it up.

AR stands for armalite. It's not and assault weapon thats a name that the media has imprinted on your brain. An assault weapon has the ability to fire semi auto or fully auto. Those arent available to the public no one has used one in one of these horrible events.

If a house in Britain gets invaded - i think we are better off given that it is extremely unlikely that the invader has a pistol, let alone an automatic weapon
@ADQAutomotive11 жыл бұрын
I believe that may be so. Everyone started freaking out when I said nobody's trying to ban all semi-automatic rifles. As it stands, not one person has proposed a bill along those lines. I was just trying to point out the stupidity inherent in these bills that base legality on appearance. It would be unconstitutional anyway because the Supreme Court holds that weapons in "common use" by "law-abiding citizens" can not be banned. To me, that means that AR's, which are very popular, are off-limi

Nor will you hear Piers talk about how he is a criminal in the UK and he came over to the states to avoid prosecution.
@Guardiandown8956 жыл бұрын
Rifles as a whole only account for 2% of homicides. An "assault weapon" ban would only be the start.
