He is an all star, just not an all-star vote getter. He was a replacement, was quietly spending his summer with the family and was asked to join, so he did. Speaks of his character. Plus he was there for his defense and court awareness and tenacity. He is also a reliable outside threat and a good rebounder and shot blocker. None of those celtics volunteered to be part of team USA -- they had a loooong season and are tired. But since they were asked and am sure their decision wasn't all their own (family inputs, club consultation , health issues) they agreed knowing all concerned is supportive of their decision.

Take your time to enjoy that historical moment from KD after coming back without playing any competitive game for three months and going 8/8 as it never done by anyone. KD has been on lesser teams with Team USA and averages like 30 points in gold medal games. What he does and how he plays are two different styles as Melo was on more loaded teams and his only role was to spot up and shoot. It is like instead of appreciating the greatness of KD and that legendary historical moment you push him down to Melo level to paint an image of how we are to view what he just did. He literally won the championship. KD’s amazing game was an anomaly even for KD. Kerr got lucky but he didn’t make the right call as a coach. Tatum should be upset because it was disrespectful to his time, effort and recent accomplishments.
