Japan was just better than everyone else in this tournament - and Rob calling it an "exhibition" is just a bad take and a slap in the face of all the other countries who sent teams and played their hardest. Rob is also way off base on criticizing Ohtani's feelings about the meaning of the win for him. Does he not know that Shohei started with that specific team and his goal was to come back and play with them in the WBC? This is tournament was personally important for him to win. I get the desire to see him be successful. I want the guy to win multiple rings. But unless Ohtani goes to another team, he's not going to have real opportunities to enjoy the success deserving of his talent. Mike Trout might be fine staying with the team and pulling his paycheck, but Ohtani needs to move on after his contract is up this year.

What the heck is Rob Parker so "cringe" about? The Angels is Ohtani's first major league team. He isn't allowed to play for another team until his contract expires at the end of the season. It's not his fault his teammates didn't perform to his level. There's nothing wrong with him saying it was the best moment of his career... to win for his country, similar to winning a gold medal in the Olympics. Who is to say that winning the World Series should be more important than winning for his country? Stop calling the World Baseball Classic an "exhibition" game. Baseball was my favorite sport growing up. Now I don’t watch it. Why? Because for years the mlb put 95% of there time and effort into the Red Sox vs Yankees rivalry. For the longest it felt like the other 28 teams didn’t exist. Now baseball is a regional sport. If you live in Nebraska why watch any games? Who do you root for? I would bet my paycheck that if you asked 100 people who won the last 3 World Series maybe 10 of them would pick 2 of the teams. The World Series doesn’t mean what it used too. It doesn’t. Since the Red Sox or Yankees aren’t involved in the World Series nobody cares and that’s because the mlb spent so much time on that rivalry. The nba does the same with the lakers and it may cost them in the future. The world baseball classic was the biggest moment in baseball in years. Ohtani is both MJ and Steph of this generation's baseball. 1. Global ambasador for the sport... US may say the WBC is an exhibition sport.. but the traction says otherwise. Ohtani and WBC showed the world how exciting baseball can be. Ohtani is bringing it to a global level similar on how Jordan was the poster boy noy only for the NBA, but for basketball in general. 2. Ohtani completely changed the landscape for future players. Remember when shooting a pull up 3 in a fast break would make your coach bench you for the whole game? And then Steph Curry did it at a high level and completely changed the landscape of the NBA? Yeah, Ohtani's dominance in both pitching and hitting is starting to do that for baseball. Wrong comparison, throwing and running as a QB is nothing new, a couple of other QB has done what Lamar did, although might not be on the same level as Lamar. Hurts, Wilson, and Vick, RG3 also did the same thing. What he Ohtani did was NOT seen before in MLB unless its Babe Ruth. Its like a QB who also play Corner in the NFL if you want to make the comparison.
