I’ve seen two from this second video, the big merino and the watering can. Ravensthorpe in WA is well known for its wildflowers. Rambo the big merino (sheep that produce ultra fine grade wool) is definitely a ram no matter which way you look at it. From the front you can see his curly horns, which ewes don’t have, and approaching from the rear…

Can’t wait to see where his is going to be placed), The Big Scotchman, Big Lizzie, The Big Mallee Root, The Giant Murray Cod,The Public Purse and The Big Wool Bales. They use to say 'Australia rode on the sheep's back' (economy in the 1950's) and that was the Merino. The Australian Merino was larger, more robust sheep that could yield up to 10 times more fleece than the original Spanish variety. Later on coal and iron ore had replaced wool as the major earner.

Hervey Bay is where the humpback whales migrate to from Antarctica. It’s in subtropical Queensland and called the whale nursery as they have their calves there and then when the weather warms up migrate back with their calves to Antarctica. They migrate between June and October and you can cruise out on a charter and see them. You can also see them from the beach on the Gold Coast . But if you get a chance to go whale watching - it’s epic.

The original ‘big thing’ was the Big Pineapple, at Woombye, near Nambour on the Sunshine Coast, which opened in 1971 (less than an hour’s drive from my place). However, the tradition of roadside monuments and tourist oddities in Australia goes back to the ‘Dog on the Tuckerbox’ monument (inspired by a poem about the life of a drover) first erected 8km outside Gundagai in 1926, and made permanent in 1932. My favourite of the modern ‘big things’ must be the Big Bogan - at Nyngan, in the Bogan Shire in outback New South Wales.

@@keithkearns93 OK. It might have started as a roadside oddity and a gift shop attached to a farm, but within a couple of years, it became much more. Since the 1960s, it has hosted events from motor races to music festivals. From the Website: “The plaque commemorates the 50th anniversary of The Big Banana which was opened in 1964 to advance the banana and tourism industries. In 1964 John Landi wanted something to make passing traffic stop at his road side banana stall. He had heard of a "Big Pineapple" in Hawaii and thought that something big would definitely stop traffic. With assistance of 1200 pounds and local engineer, Alan Chapman, who set about designing the giant banana by cutting the best looking banana he could find into 40 pieces and developing plans from which builders could work from, the Big Banana could become a reality. Builder Alan Harvey started the construction in September 1964 with the work to be completed before Christmas. The biggest banana in the world was officially opened on December 22 that year. Not long after, John Enevoldson joined as a partner and they expanded with 20 more plantation acres, a shop, cafe and a larger car park. In 1968 John Landi retired and sold his share to John Enevoldson who continued building the business until 1988 when it was sold to Horticulture World, which was part owned by local businessman Bob Johnston. Bob continued expanding the Big Banana into an educational showcase before undergoing a $30 million redevelopment that re- opened in June 1989. The Big Banana Fun Park now boasts the biggest Water Park between Sydney and the Gold Coast, a state-of-the-art Laser Tag Arena, Toboggan Ride, Ice-Skating Rink, “The World of Bananas” theatre and plantation tour experience, 36 hole Mini Golf course, Go Bananas Fun Zone, the biggest Giant Slide in the country, know as “The Racer”, Going Bananas Cafe, Gift and Souvenir shop, Candy Kitchen, Opal Centre, Reptile World, and 4D.”

You might like the ant sculpture but watch out for the real ants in Australia, they aren't very nice. Step on one and your foot may ache for days. Apparently the Australian Bull ant has the most painful sting in the world. I learned that from a British documentary 😉 If you're out for a picnic check the ground for ants 😉
