I know very little about fishing but ……. pause for major claim, I caught several brown trout in 1995 in the tarns and lakes of Kashmir at an altitude of 8,000ft. An elderly Indian ghillie (fishing guide) told me that some mountainous rivers (and Himalayan kingdoms like Bhutan) were seeded with Scottish brown trout during the 1920s-30s. The reason was that the ViceRoy - the Governor General - (+ British army officers and other colonial gentry) enjoyed fishing during their time off while ‘ruling’ the country. Decades later the trout are still flourishing.

Himalayan Kingdoms like Bhutan and Nepal were never colonized my good sir, but yes they did enjoy fishing and so did (and still do) our monarchs!
