Dan that's so funny I left Europe on July 2nd. When I was in Naples I was holding my phone in my pocket tight the whole time because the captain of my cruise said "beware of pickpockets!"

Our passports, iPhone, credit cards, wallet with cash everything was stolen at the train station in Rome. What a nightmare! We were not the only ones filing a police report, several people were. That's breakfast, lunch and dinner. Non-stop.

I'm italian and I totally relate to this. I actually laughed when you said europeans are arrogant and that we always think english talking are from USA haha. And as for Naples, even Italy itself knows that city is not safe. I'd love to visit it but I don't really like people living there cause of the reputation they have :/

Dan, pickpockets are pretty common in many places in Europe. If you were carrying that much stuff, you were honestly begging to be picked as a target. I'm not saying that it should have happened, but you should honestly be more careful when you travel.
