What kills me the most is the CLEAN channel has infinite sustain AND musical harmonic feedback. The clean channel is doing what most want from a driven channel. I could listen to that clean channel all day. Harmonic, rich and just lively. So very alive. Ridiculous.

Don't think I'll ever be able to play a Dumble amp, but I get the feeling you just described playing through my Soldano. I got it for the famed overdrive channel, but it's the clean channel that's the most addictive. This Dumble sounds bonkers.

Hey, I have had a ‘59 Bassman since forever now that was found outside in the elements. Perhaps it’s sac religion to talk about gutting it’s transformers for Dumble style build but I don’t like that cramped chassis to begin with and the amp has too much breakup for my taste overall. No feedback in that circuit, definitely feedback while still playing clean. Nothing beats a simple short signal path with quality parts which begs the question- what tubes are in that thing ? I have another insane amp for headroom but it’s freaking huge and a boat anchor. The Bassman is much easier to live with if I can stabilize it. I probably had a bad set of rectification bottles because I saw the lightning in power tubes on the Bassman and killed the resistors on the Sunn 1200 using the same rectifier tubes. I parked those amps 18-20 years ago and this video peaks my interest in bringing them back to life. Also remembering my great friend Jim Hanley who helped get these amps running and introducing me to Thiel ported cabinets loaded with EV-M’s wow! 4x12 is cool for metal but for everything else 1x12 is perfect, in stereo of course 😄

Dan, I had a dumble and what I noticed is that it was like a violin made by the old masters. As it aged, it gain a vibrancy and life of its own. It did not amplify a sound, but gave it a breath of life so every note became its own unique life. The cleans had an innocence of achikd whike the overdrive gave you that old wisdom of a person that has lived a full life of adventure. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. Just found this video and happy to see that amp I've personally met 20y ago when Robben came to Italy for a gig at Como lake. I was lucky enough to be his "road manager" for that day, picked him at the airport with his trusted dumble and the other band members then we had one hour driving having some nice conversation about the incoming gig. During the concert I was backstage with his guitar tech (Daved Khols at the time) learning a lot on how to change strings, make it stable and ready for the next song in few minutes! Among other things the Dumble amp runs on 110V and Robben asked days before to have a step down (230v to 110v) transformer available in place. Well what we found there was a kind of toy probably too small to manage the high current (8amp) needed by the amp. Robben and Daved (yes it's not David) had a little briefing and decided to take a Super Reverb of the opening band ready for a quick swap in case of problems during the show. Daved then placed a multimeter on the transformer to check constantly if the current possibly went down... it didn't happen but at the end it was really hot! It's nice to remember as they were very calm facing what it could have been a very big problem. Well, Robben played beautifully as always then we were all invited for a dinner, the Dumble was placed in the hard cases and some local people suggested to leave it under a near building staircase while we were having a tasty pizza. Robben seemed to agree so I immediatly said: "Sorry Robben, may be they have no idea about the treasure that lays in those hard cases and after all we are in Italy so I will never leave my eyes from that stuff until you leave and this means your amp will have a dinner with us!" Robben understood then he said: "Thanks, you'r a good man." I still have a lot of picture of Robben, Daved and the Dumble during that very special evening and if you can still enjoy that amp today maybe it is also thanks to me! :)) In the end as passionate guitarist what can I say about the Dumble and this remarkable video, real life sometimes can be tough so let us dream about legends ,magical stuff and yes.. I know people like to hear stories so here is mine!

Fantastic show! Great playing by all. I loved Robben’s stories about Alexander Dumble and how he lived his craft. Thanks for making this video.

I absolutely LOVE the way you formatted this. Kudos to whomever influenced the scripting and editing of these videos, both independently and as a pair. Nicely done.

@@ThatPedalShow Script as a figure of speech. Planned or laid-out would have been a better choice.

Robben is a gift to music and through his giving nature we are able to see the TPS folks just flooded with palpable joy and it has made my day.

Talk to Your Daughter Hit me hard with his sound when it came out and got more refined through the Blue Line, Mystic Mile and Tiger Walk records. What a privilege to play this. How many tears welled up while you guys were playing? Very happy for you all to have this experience.

The reference to the amp being a person, and then all of these unique people interacting with it-each of you had a conversation with Dumble, despite the obvious existential limitations. What a beautiful thing. Thank you for sharing it with us.

This is by far the best video I've ever seen on the Dumble amplifier and how it sounds and it was great for Robin to bring it in and demo it.

I am a higher end recording studio owner and I have to say OMFG…..Thank you guys soooo much for this video. Watching Robbin talk about his amp, and hearing you guys play….and the amount of respect and reverence you showed for Robben, his amp, the time with him, the stories etc….so gracious and respectful. As you should be with a great man who is also kind, humble, legendary, and grounded all at once. This video is now an important piece of guitar history. May God bless you all for this. Excellent job. Nicely done on all accounts.
