I'm a drummer and have played with various guitar players. After playing with various guitar players. I hone in on tone first, rhythm, then style and heart. I've been blessed. Robben Ford is my hero for all the above. Thank you mr FORD!

There is no denying Robben Ford's abilities as a guitar player. His sound, his approach ... it's all so....Robben! It's his rhythm playing that seems to go unnoticed by so many people. To me Robben comping behind a soloist is pure magic.

Love Robben , love Miles . I have to say that Miles Davis is the only horn player that caught my attention , I still listen to Miles records whenever I feel the need ( which is often ) . I think it is a testament to divine talent when an artist is so appreciated and impresses other artists who play all sorts of different instruments . I am a guitar player who has been playing since 1963 , and has played in so many bands . But , Miles Davis , Robben Ford , Jimi Hendrix , and the three kings ( BB , Albert , and Freddie ) , are in a class all by themselves !

I love RF’s soloing but his chording is insane. I lived in the Bay Area back when he played there often (I used to live across the street from his brother) and I’d see his mother now and then at a show and we’d talk. I once asked her what he mostly worked on when younger and she said “chords, always chords”.

For my money - Robben Ford is the best Blues/Jazz guitarist of his generation. Sometimes I prefer to listen to Larry Carlton - just because I can only handle so much of Robben's intensity. But solo-for-solo? He's been my favorite since the mid-80s

"people think of Miles in 3 ways: pre Kind of blue, Kind of Blue and Electric part 1 and 2" ? Huh?? Where is a bare mention of 2nd great quintet??? (post Kind of Blue and pre electric)? One of the most inspiring ensembles in the history of modern jazz? Sorry. but most people don't think of Miles in those 3 ways.

@Tomas Kirchhoff Amen. The early 60's with Wynton Kelly was some of the greatest stuff, and it's nothing like Kind Of Blue, and it's nothing like the electric years. Not to mention the years after with Wayne and Herbie. Not to mention a beautiful album like Sketches Of Spain, which deserves to be one of the "ways of Miles" all by itself, that's how good that album is.

Butch warren complained to thelonius monk that he had been playing years with the band and never got a solo. Thelonius got the band on the stage, announce butch was going to solo, and got the rest of the band off the stage, leaving butch up there for over ten minutes.......lol...... Jimi smith would hang out at my friends house(a world class organ player), he told all sorts of stories of how all the musicians were always “one upping” each other, and always real time, at the gig. You have to be able to look into the players soul, and lay something heavy down. In salsa it’s called malevolence....not in a bad way, just an attitude.
