He was in a boyband which was HUGE in Europe in the early 90s, this song is from his solo career which is when he REALLY blew up at least for a while and at least in Europe. He also really struggled with fame and drugs for more than a decade, and the Knebworth concert chronologically happened at the tail end of his out of control binges and misery, and that’s around the time a kind of biographical book called “Feel” was released, which really was centered around his struggles with fame and drugs. Frankly, one of the most raw and honest pieces i’ve ever read about a human being, because throughout the book (and the album Escapology and this live performance) there is no shying away from the worst parts of what being addicted can mean. I was probably too young to read it, but it’s been so beneficial to me, looking back. I just really think he managed his career in the most honest way someone could run a career in entertainment, and he made the right call when he put a boundary on where he would actually try being a big name. Because his label wanted him to “make it in America” too, but he was never actually in it and he ended up moving in California to stay away from the fame in Europe. It was good for him, and I’m really so happy he figured it out. Or at least he figured out how to manage all that messy relationship he had with other people and with addiction. That’s something other performers were never able to do, and unfortunately it killed them.

So happy Rob survived from getting thrown into pop stardom when your 16 to surviving today through drugs alcohol problems not many survive Jim Morrison, Hendrix, Janis , Amy Winehouse the list is huge so so so happy he still here one of a huge amount of stars. Love you Robbie ❤❤❤

Robbie Williams' background is with 90's British boyband "Take That" which he joined at age 16. They had a huge following in the UK. Robbie had a notorious and long-lasting spat with fellow band member Gary Barlow though they have since reconciled. Robbie went on to his own successful solo career ... "Take That" are still producing music to this day ...

Robbie is probably the only pop star I like several songs from and he's a very good performer. I hope you'll check out more by him.

Robbie is a legend. This concer was huge. so many hits and deep cuts are really good.

Robbie started out in Take That. Went solo & a little bit nuts with it all, as you do. He really puts on a great gig, there's usually a 'swing' section too where he does his best Sinatra & Dean Martin. If I remember correctly these Knebworth gigs were record breaking.

If you pay attention to the video of the monkey near the end, you can see the monkey glitching and Robbie appears instead of it. Supposedly the song is about the saying to "Have a monkey on your back". So no actually about a monkey, but more metaphorically about himself and his history with drug abuse and those kind of shenanigans.

Man is the best live showman since Freddie Mercury. Check out the rest of his knebworth concert and his Swing when you're wining gig at Albert hall. The monkey in his story is his addiction. He's a great story teller.

Ha Ha.! Brad you need to watch this entire concert. At least do "Feel", "Undone", and "Angels" live from this concert - absolutely unreal.

I can't believe this has only 89 likes, including mine. This was an awesome performance, and a great reaction. Keep up the great work Brad.

They end up in Vegas, but they have a Mexican stand-off with a Mexican who confronts them. Robbie is an addict in recovery - this song is a metaphor for what he was like on drugs, inspired in part by a trip to Vegas. Though he insists the bit about the whores is not *literally* true.

I'm with ya Mike. His popularity all over the world other than in the states is insane. Am still scratching my head on how we missed out.

@@duncansbuddy its partly coz he gave up. he tried to break america especially with the 5th album Escapology. But then with all the drama he had with the press and paparazzi in the uk he decided he liked being a nobody in california so decided to live there and didnt really try break america.
