Emma and Robbie have a very healthy skepticism of LA

Steven Cassidy interesting though that it comes from a couple of Brits. Criticize a very small amount of people that make up Hollywood for judging based on the superficial while the entirety of British citizenry has a history of judging one another based on their class system.

As these days the class system means relatively little in England compared to that of LA, then it's an entirely fair scepticism isn't it? If they were talking 100 years ago then you may have some vague point... But we are not, so you don't.
@Necrostrike
@Necrostrike 7 жыл бұрын
The class system is alive and well in England. Look at your elite universities and who attends them. Same case in the US, the wealthy have entrenched institutional advantages that give them a leg up from the day they're born. You'd be mad to think that a child of two PhD's or doctors isn't massively advantaged on average over children with average middle class parents who did little or no college. Same applies to families of established actors and musicians, it's just easier to break into industry when you have contacts.
@MS-he3wz
@MS-he3wz 5 жыл бұрын
@@Necrostrike I'm sorry but this is the false equivalence to end them all. They were specifically asked about LA and their opinion of it as members of the entertainment industry who frequent the Hollywood circles. Should they have lied and said it was great all because what? The Brits don't have an egalitarian society? They weren't even talking about the US in general (which they'd still be free to criticize regardless of the situation of their own country). This weird strand of patriotism whereas no one who wasn't born and raised in an arbitrarily defined bit of land is allowed to say anything about the peculiarities of another bit of land will always baffle me. Of course, everything you said is true. But bringing it up here, where it is entirely irrelevant, is unnecessary and oddly defensive. Are you the mayor of LA or something?

As a brit who has travelled all my life, Los Angeles was the one place i went and felt almost immediately self conscious. Literally within a couple of days of being there i felt everyone was trying to live up to something superfical and to stay in the environment you would need to adapt to it and become the same. Very weird, kind of plastic feeling to it. I met some great people but they seem to be in some artificial bubble.

It is only toxic if you haven’t dealt with your issues. Past a certain point in life you simply don’t care what others think of you. Celebrities are not generally a good measure of the human condition, and so if you look up to them, you are more than likely going to fall into the hell of toxicity that their culture perpetrates.

I've been living in L.A. for 18 years now and I agree that this is a weird place. Overcrowded with too many sensitive people looking to become famous. It's not for everyone that's for sure. It took me a while to sort of learn how to deal with people here because anyone can get offended over the smallest thing very quickly. It's almost like walking on ice in a way, you just have to be careful with people.

I lived in L.A. for 2 years. Everyone I met was so plastic, surgically sculpted faces with implants EVERYWHERE! They are so beautifully assembled yet if you get closer you can smell the desperation of constantly having to get plastic surgeries to look younger and more attractive. Do not make friends with these sharks, unless you are very skilled at gaslighting people and carry extra daggers for multiple back stabbings. Definitely not my type of people. Emma has spoken before about the rigid hierarchy in place in US film/TV productions. Cast and crew (particularly junior crew) never intermingle. I did film and tv background work in London in the late 90s and this was really evident on the set of ‘Friends’ when they filmed Ross and Emily’s wedding. Most of the cast were egotistical horrors with utter and highly visible contempt for the ‘underlings’ (not I hasten to add Elliot Gould and screen wife who were charm personified). In Hollywood money and fame and beauty (plastic or otherwise) is the holy trinity and Emma absolutely nailed exactly how it is so toxic and damaging

I feel like in the UK, they tend not to take themselves so seriously. I mean, most brits are really self-deprecating compared to Americans. Also, British actors come from a line of theatre acting. They make their start there and then make their way onto film most times, so I think it also stems from that. Hollywood is all about face, not so much about talent.

Poor Jimmy Carr, you can see his nose is put of joint that he's been brought on as the comedian and Robbie is just naturally hilarious.

Robbie is a douchebag. He keeps interrupting Emma. He can be thankful, that she has class. Even then you can see she's annoyed vy him.

Robbie isn't to everyone's liking but he's a character, a 'lad' and he's lived a crazy and fun life, so he has stories...and isn't afraid of letting people laugh at him. Jimmy, on the other hand, is a ventriloquist dummy...to look at and to listen to. I find him as funny as chemotherapy and I should know...i've had it! 😆 but...each to their own. 😉

I think it was more that Robbie just completely blanked Jimmy - he didn’t make any eye contact. I think Robbie has an underlying awkwardness and he couldn’t deal with Jimmy’s put down even though it was a joke.

Because it was witty humor Robbie had to think about before getting it. "what's he talking about, wait, what colour is my hair?... Too late the audience is already laughing...

Ironically Emma talks about the VIP status in LA, and that they don't have it, on the show that actually strongly emphasizes it more than any show I've seen.

How does it emphasize it? In this show people have time to speak unlike in American 3 minute segment shows

@@tsfbaf303 He introduces the biggest star to the couch last, makes the biggest deal out of them. It's obvious who has the top billing. In US shows each guest is on their own so they get more attention. It's not so obvious that the bigger star went before them. But some shows like Kelly Clarkson are starting to have all the guests at the same time and it's fun. She doesn't do an applause meter for each guest so it's not awkward like here.

@@richardkovacs2006 Yeah, he isn't the best listener in this clip. My amateur psychology analysis is that when he overcame his shyness, he felt he had to take every opportunity to express himself.
