Master the very sophisticated sound of the W/H & H/W Diminished!
In this video, I share everything you need to know to unlock the Symmetrical Diminished scale so that you can start using it within your playing and adding it to your improvisational language.
This Whole Half or Half Whole Diminished scale is often used as a way to play 'outside' in order to create tension within your lines, chord voicings, and harmonic movements. It's not only a sound used in Blues & Jazz but a sound found across all styles of music and different genres.
I get into the deep theory of this modern scale and cover the functions/applications, triad ideas, generating chords, scale shapes for the guitar, and some of my favourite lines/patterns (+ lots more!).
The examples in this video will give you all the knowledge to truly master this #diminishedscale so that you can call upon this sound whenever you want to bring out the #wholehalf or #halfwhole tension! You can also check out my Patreon page for further in-depth material related to this video and more ways on how to use this scale.

Your long-form videos are the best ear training lessons for guitarists that I’ve found. My student’s ability to hear the subtlety between related diminished scales and intervals in general after spending time with your channel have been greatly improved. And so is mine!

Diminished is a good study. Diminished , altered Dim and loc Dim are the main 3 but there are other "modal" Diminished. 4 in harmonic minor 4 in harmonic major 4 in hungarian major 4 in Romainian major Loc6, dor#4, lyd#2, altbb7 Dorb5, lydb3, lydaug#9, locbb7 Lyd dom#9, altbb6bb7, alt6, dor b2#4 Lyd aug#9#3, aeolb5bb7, Mel minb5, lyd augb3 (lyd dim aug) With the 2 modes of octatonic diminished that's all of them from what I remember. There always more though but these are the most useful from the most common parent scales. 18 all together.

As a huge fan and practitioner of the operatic symphonic progressive melodic euro folk metal style that´s going on in the world of metal these years I can´t wait to sit down and dig deep into this for expanding the melodic language of the music I play. Equally applicable to the grand anthem like compositions of the style as well as to the in your face rockers as to the folk inspired acoustic songs,- all of it expanding the harmonic and melodic possibillities of an already more open and outside genre of metal than most. New sub here. Thank you.
