I’m betting most of the wood they burn is desert hardwoods, which have a lot of silicates in them. So lots of soot and ash. It’s about as flammable as fiber glass. But that looked like yeeears of build up.

Looking great! I’m an electrician who bends a lot of conduit, I’m impressed with your ability to do 3D bends it’s definitely an art. I just thought I’d mention if you didn’t already know common tubing offset bending multipliers. 10° = 5.75 15° = 3.86 22° = 2.6 30° = 2 45° = 1.41 60° = 1.16 For example, if you want to offset your tubing 10”inches and you wanted to use a 30°, what you do is multiply 10” by the multiplier for that angle, in the case of a 30 degree bend the multiplier is 2. So if you wanted to bend a 10” offset with a 30° you would mark the center of bend of your first bend 20” apart from the center of your second bend. Idk if it’s helpful for you at all but I thought I’d share.

Looks like a good tank, I would have maybe put a baffle or two in in, not because that tank is going to have problems with slosh, but just to help with oil canning, but if you vent it, you won't have to worry about oil canning anyways. What a cool opportunity to run a pit for Shannon, that's a huge deal.

On the wood stove chimney: instead of a hard 90* elbow I suggest using two 45* pieces to make the transition. According to the Utah Mechanical Code a 45* bend is still vertical (where a 90* bend is considered to be horizontal). Also, try running a HOTTER fire occasionally with a 'creosote-burning' 'chocolate miracle pill' every occasional-like. From the looks of that plugged chimney you were only moments way from a glorious Roman Candle pyrotechnique. (years of service up north as a deputy fire marshal and fire investivator)
@scuss218 күн бұрын
I've suggested to them that a used oil heater would be their best bet for heating such a large shop. Look how many oil changes they have to do, plus other Mechanic shops in and around Moab that have used oil. Hardwood pallets are free everywhere and they burn hot. I too think they have too many elbows in their pipe and by the time the smoke exits, it is cooled off which also creates creosote.

Stack looks too short as well? Should be 2’ taller than any part of the roof within 10’
@taylor.photography51818 күн бұрын
@@kellybrooks9899 I am not going to respond to your comment because it only points out ONE of many issues with this heater/chimney that are non-code compliant. If they ever suffer a loss and file a claim due to this installation I am afraid their claim would be denied based on the fire investigator's report. The matter is further exascerbated by their posting video. "May fortune favor the foolish"--Hamlet, William Shakespeare

Mike - remember back when every table in a restaurant had an ashtray and people would light up anywhere
@canyonrunner18 күн бұрын
I worked the fine-dining restaurants in the 70s and cooked my way through college and grad school! NOT ONLY an ashtray and a bonafide fire-flame candle on each table (occupant load of facility was over 300 persons); but every 'decent' restaurant/bar had their own BRANDED book of paper matches or miniture box of stick matches. Customers would steal (collect) them routinely. I laugh at it now but it really pis*ed me off back then. I am in my 70s now and still out Jeeping, kayak fishing and camping with friends and family.
@hermione683017 күн бұрын
I do. Walk in, go over and grab mom an ashtray and pack of matches. Then when the "sections" started the restaurant in town wouldn't let kids sit in the smoking section, so mom would sit by the dividing wall and us kids would sit on the the other side. Cause that 3' tall wall kept the smoke contained you know.

Love the looks of the wrecker you're building for Robby. I like the idea of running hard pipe for the radiator pipping. Hope you leave it with the ability to expand in length as it can grow over an 1/8" in nine feet, based on zero degree ambient and 200 degree antifreeze.
@Fix_It_Again_Tony18 күн бұрын
Not just thermal expansion, but when that wrecker is loaded and twisted up, that frame is going to twist as well. The frame and tube need to be allowed the move a bit independently for both reasons. Any rigid mounting points between the tube and frame will probably fail pretty quickly.
