With regard to lexan/polycarbonate windshields, make sure to run plastic tear off sheets over top of them to protect them from scratches and make them more easily cleanable. Big ups

Install that lexan at the last possible time. It will get scratched up easily and get wrecked by welding slag, stuff flying around in the shop etc.

I am doing this to test the final 4 rotor chassis stuff. we are going to unveil some really nasty aero for this car and even more for the 4 rotor. As a sneak peak, ive made the 4 rotor front suspension how it was supposed to be, but on this car. so much lighter and faster. So as soon as pikes is done, we will go back to the big projects, but ill have knowledge on how to build the 4 rotor faster than almost all time attack cars. i have some insane ideas and i think they just might work. The bummer is that since its the 3 rotor the views wont be as crazy, but its the groundwork needed to build the 4 right

I found the best thing to do is to make a spoon that fits on the end of a sawzall. You can take a piece of metal and cut it in the shape of the spoon and make it to fit into a sawzall and you can just follow the inside of the trim and it will cut the material quite easily. I learned that from a windshield replacement guy.

I am so happy for you to take this important safety step. I would not like to lose Rob Dahm due to the preventable situation of no roll cage. All your vehicles should also have a transmission cover/hump, a firewall, and isolation from spraying fuel from rear fuel pumps and surge tank! I believe that is recommended to use a bell housing ballistic shield if you are above 10.5 K RPM although I wasn't able to quickly verify this and this was from my memory. Exploding flywheels and clutches spinning at 10.5K RPM will tear stuff apart :-(

Glad to see you're taking the safety aspect seriously. Don't end up like my friend's Jeremy and Yuri who famously took the EVO off the side of the mountain! Sadly I assisted with a last second tire change on the EVO before they staged at the start line, as they caught word that weather changed up top. I was crewing for LoveFab's NSX that year, and both cars were staged back to back. So when the EVO went off, we thought it was our driver that went off instead to find out it was Jeremy and Yuri. Take my word of advice, RESPECT the mountain! It will chew you up and spit you out, so don't go far beyond your comfort zone. The weather is unpredictable and changes by the minute. I have watched too many drivers I've helped while crewing for a team go off, including my driver. Second go around we had a nasty wreck due to a failed suspension component on the rear of the car, first year of the LoveFab Enviate. Car spun, hit a boulder, and ruptured into a fireball. Go fast stay safe!

Also might want to look at supplemental oxygen for when you're near the top. Will help with fatigue and focus when the air gets thin. You get past 10,000ft and fatigue sets in QUICK!

Make sure your lexan has all the proper mounts and clamps. I’ve seen to many windows and even doors get blown off by air getting under the lexan.

Cool now you can roll down the mountain and survive! I make autoglass out of lexan when their is no stock if auto glass. Its really inexpensive. You should put clear vinyl on before you wotk with the lexan because it scratch easy.

Rob you should add the FIA bar for the front A downbar it will increase the safety a lot.....if you just search images of "fia bar cage" it is easy to add the straight bar from the bottom of the a-bar to top. It is rare to see any rally car without one and all wrc (for example) cars have that bar in place. Especially since this is a 90s cars with the super thin A-pillars

Take care with the lexan front window, make sure the middle is supported because with high wind speeds it can curve inwards/snap and has a huge potential to harm the driver

Like Isiah said, you gotta weld up the cage with it dropped down through the floor then lift it up and weld the feet under it... It's the only way to guarantee perfect welds in all the hard to reach areas.

Ceramic spark plugs don't work on windscreens, I think because of the laminate but every other window will just shatter straight away. only a flick of a little piece will cause the reaction
