Oh God, the "David Johnson" test in Durban!... Faulty speedometers ablaze - had David Johnson bowling at 125 km/h, bouncing the ball over the wicket keeper unintentionally, untouched. AT LEAST 145, visible to the naked eye. ... aaaand!... The fastest bowler in the world at the time was, actually, none other than - the Mysore Express, Javagal Srinath! A legend! In many ways, like Rob: not quite as complete - but just a fraction quicker. Thank YOU Rob you gem: but I saw joy from watching Javagal Srinath long before I knew you existed. Live, no less. And long live Robelinda, for all the nostalgic moments that we never would have had - but for the grace of his brilliantly presented and edited work of genius. You, Sir, are to be credited with a contribution to humanity - and awarded a Nobel Prize for history - on short order. Right after that, a well-deserved knighthood - together with a plot of land in fair, rainy England. At the very least! Anyway: at that point in time, Javagal Srinath happened to be faster than anyone really, including Allan Donald. (Ooooooh, you never know! Who, really, could be faster than Allan Donald?!! ... and yet!.…) Yes, ladies and gentlemen. Before Shoaib Akhtar, there was Javagal Srinath. He would casually glide to the crease, only to release a cracker - then go back - and bowl 155+ once again. Not throughout his entire career - but for the three years was in which he was the fastest bowler in the world, HE GENUINELY WAS. Nevermind the gentle run-up and the contained action: he was lightning fast - to the shock of many pretentious batsmen in international cricket. And he done 'em for pace, too! ... ever so skillful, it never got in the way of his line, length, swing and game plan in general. He was good - but GOOD. He was THAT good. What a shame, virtually no support... Or he would have done even better.

@@indianscammer7846 I clearly remember Zimbabwe batsman saying they felt Srinath to be quicker than Donald in the try-series which followed in 1997 series in South Africa. Srinath was also second highest in 1999 World Cup after SOhaibh akhtar although there was still gap between first and second.

That third test was Robbed by Cullinan and rain ...with snow falling constantly in my town we only had the radio to follow the match and I was impatiently waiting for Cullinan or Klusener to get out but none did...by the time Klusener fell to Kumble it was too late for an Indian victory...Srinath bowled so much on that tour that he injured his shoulder and famously threw the ball with his bowling action or underarmed and lobbed the ball back to the keeper from the outfield.

Absolutely, dear friend. How can I forget the unbelievably incredible partnership by Duminy-Elgar at WACA Perth in 2016??? That's the most incredible recent partnerships I've watched live and supported lot to Duminy-Elgar. Sadly Duminy was induced to play outside off stump to give away his wicket and their priceless effort and partnership ended there. But I loved that innings and is still fresh in my mind. Apart from Ind-SA and Aus-SA, I'd say that Ind-Aus Tests are worth watching nowadays as most other teams, even South Africa, have lost their good talent and are in rebuilding phase. So getting good players at international level for teams like SL, Pak, Eng, SA and Windies will take at least 3 to 5 years.

As a child and a passionate Indian cricket fan, I was always terrified when India went touring. Have such terrible memories of the team performing like a bunch of school boys. Being lions in their backyard with Kumble wrecking through the opposition and Tendulkar being expected to do bulk of the scoring- it would expose the weakness of the line up once it played outside the sub continent. I used to cry buckets and even not eat food out of pure sorrow of the team losing. Thankfully that's not the case anymore.

Oppositions threw their everything at this man(Aussies threw their Umpires as well evrytime he toured Oz). 1996-2000 -> Dravid was there but could hardly penetrate (Aus Tour was disaster). Ganguly went missing in Aus/NZL/SAF. Azhar was his usual moody self. So it was ALL ABOUT SACHIN. You get him, you get the match. That 169 was best knock I ever saw. Donald/Pollock/Klusener at their Peak supported by McMillan.

Sachin SET Up games countless times with attacking strokeplay. Dravid is a master in his own right. But How is he better than Sachin if Sachin's overseas record is better than Dravids and that too in SENA countries. Want to know who was better than all these combined.?? It was Laxman. He has contributed in almost all of Indias memorable wins in 2000s. You Name it... He will be there with little 70s and 80s... batting with the tail winning the games

Dravid as a visitor in SA was terrible ( except for a series). From 2001 to 2011,scored just ONE FIFTY. Tests are mostly won by picking up 20 wickets.Batters( be it Dravid or Tendulkar) can at best save matches if 20 wickets are not picked up. A batter gets a hundred...bowlers do well and India wins..and the batter becomes a match winner enjoying the serendipity. Gavaskar's 96 in Bangalore and Tendulkar's hundred in Chennai were not complemented by the rest of the batters. Tendulkar's and Azharuddin's counter attack at Cape Town remains one of the best spectacles in the history of cricket. In SA,stroke players succeeded more than the stone wallers. Australian wickets demanded versatality in stroke play as well ! I

Loads of Modern Indian Generation Sees the Current No 1 Indian side with Likes of Ishant, Bumrah and Shami way ahead of bowlers in 90s and 2000s. I partly disagree. I think its not the bowlers but rather the combination of them makes the difference. In 90s It was Srinath and Prasad picking Fifers in England/SAF/NZL. Almost all overseas Tours you saw these bowlers had opposition under the pump. Lone Warriors Srinath and Prasad. In first test they couldnt have bowled any better and in 3rd Test, Rain Saved SAF. The main Problem was Indian Batting. Had they given enough runs to these bowlers(including Kumble), India would have had much better results overseas. Not necessarily wins but draws for that matter.

SRT was the poorest Indian captain i'd ever seen until Dhoni bettered (or should it be worsted?) him.

rahul t : I can give you countless examples to prove the point. Btw, I am an MSD fan, but I’m not blind to the fact that in test cricket his captaincy at times was terrible

@@AshokSridharan Partly Agree... Sachin Was a defensive Captain, he let the game drift so many occassions. I have them on back of my mind. Specially overseas games. Fact that Ganguly/Dravid failed miserably in 1999 in Australia didnt help either. That was a tough time to captain and India had their moments in pretty much every tour. There would be no openers most of the time and no tail as well. An below average Kumble overseas didnt help either. So basically India Played with 4 Players. Srinath/Prasad/Sachin and 4th could be anyone - Dravid/Laxman/Ganguly/Azhar. No matter how good a captain you were, it was also a matter of Players failing to perform

@@AshokSridharan And I used to be an MSD Fan.. That guy has let India lose so many games from winning positions just by his batting alone in ODIs post 2013. In tests, he was blessed with most decorative Batting lineup - Sehwag/Tendulakr/Dravid/Laxman/Ganguly/Himself Some decent Lower Order - Kumble, Bhajji, Zaheer Some Excellent New Comers - Sreesanth, RP, Irfan Some Rejuvenated Old Guard: Agarkar (No -2 or 3 in 2007), Nehra Yet MR MSD Bottled so many Games with 4 Bowler Strategy. Managed to lose to England at Home.. With some audacious strokeplay himself. Pretty much sucked batting overseas. Then there was post Big-3 Era(2013) - MSD had his team, Kicking outSehwag/Gambhir and others

NILESH SINGH: to be fair to him, SRT never had a good attack at his disposal. MSD, at least in his last two or three seasons had a pretty handy attack at his disposal. Ishant Sharma, Shami, Bhuvi and Umesh Yadav was a pretty decent quarter of quicks, apart from Ashwin, Jadeja and Ojha. He still couldn’t get good results from that attack outside home conditions
