In the books, after he's convinced Robert not to take part in the tourney, and while he's being more and more aware of the Lannister plotting treason, Ned enjoys seeing Robert on his best behavior and cannot help himself but think that this is still his childhood friend, and he then has no doubts that if he were to find proof of the Lannister treasons and present them to him, he'd tear them all apart, and if Tywin were to dare rise up against him, Robert would smash him like he smashed Rhaegar. It obviously doesn't happen like that, but it's sweet to see how Ned deep down trusts the Robert he knows

If it weren't for that, Cat wouldn't leave Winterfell and talk to Petyr, and Petyr wouldn't make her kidnap Tyrion, making Jaime fight Ned, making Ned stay in King's Landing, and being beheaded. Fucking Joffrey. Or let's go even further. Fucking Jaime and Cersei, screwing in the tower 😂

@Libellulaire
@Libellulaire 9 ай бұрын
Things went to sh*t when Littlefinger put his plan into action. When Robert died it turned bad faster though, of course, but even before that the situation was bad: he was surrounded by people he couldn't trust (and he knew that to some degree) and he was basically "invaded" by Lannisters. He mentioned it, he knew about it. Yet he let it happen, he let Tywin take control over the throne bit by bit over the years. They just couldn't take full control of it while Robert was still alive since he was a strong man who still had a lot of strong allies.

A tragedy we never got to see Bobby B in his prime, the demon of the trident. It would be epic as shit to see him carve through the army like butter, wielding a giant warhammer like something out of warcraft, then fighting the crown prince himself, his eyes near glowing with rage, until with one epic swing the rubies shatter into the water, the armour making the sound of ice cracking as it caves in, the slow motion flying back of Rhaegar into the water, the blood covered antler wearing 6'6 Robert roaring above the bloodied corpse.

Ned being an honorable fool was actually good on the long run. Even though the Starks are almost gone (as far as northeners know) all of Ned's vassals still plot against the Boltons in the books, just because they want to avenge Ned and his family. He grew up far away w/ Robert in the Vale, and still he built such a trustworthy relationship with northern folk that they were willing to risk everything to defend and avenge the Starks. Just goes to show how the North works. It even traces back to the old kings of the North - the king who knelt basically gave up his throne right away to Aegon the Conqueror because he didn't want any northern blood to be spilled. Meanwhile, houses like Lannister and Tyrell only exist because they were vassals backstabbing their kings in order to climb the social ladder.

@@boitrash4279 Do you think Ned would be satisfied with the fact that so many innocent people had to die just so his House could rise to the top? Having Daenerys killed earlier would have prevented much of the chaos and bloodshed that occurred later in the show. I guess you could argue she played a vital part in the battle against the White Walkers but really the Starks had that one covered and Arya ended up destroying the threat herself. Acting earlier against Cersei or aligning himself with Renly would have at least bought him some time and possibly allowed him to save Catelyn and Robb. Ultimately the Starks ascension to independence had more to do with Sansa's political opportunism, Bran's magical Three-Eyed Raven powers and Arya being an overpowered one-woman army than Ned's old-timey notions of honour. Ironically it was Jon Snow who adhered to Ned's values of honour and duty for the longest and he still suffered for it in the end. I think Ned would have been rather appalled if he could see what became of his House and family in the end.

What should Robert have done? Immediately gone to war with the Lannisters after he was already spent from beating the Targaryens? Marrying into the Lannister family was basically a political necessity for the stability of the realm and he couldn't help the fact that his wife was an incestuous scumbag. Tywin basically had the whole realm over a barrel by the end of the rebellion and he was going to ensure his House prospered in the long run so there wasn't much choice other than to play ball with him. I suppose Robert's greatest mistake was spending so much time drinking and sleeping around that he didn't realize his children were actually Cersei and Jaime's, but even if he had discovered the truth and had them executed it still would have led to Tywin flipping out and taking revenge in some way. The only possible compromise would have been forcing Jaime to take the black and serve out his days in the Night's Watch so he could keep his head but not be able to continue his affair with Cersei.

@@abyrvalg_ not true. read the books. When he is on his deathbad he say that he regreted that he has been a shitty king and vater to joffrey. He even though he was worse then the mad king. Joffrey just wanted his approvel but never got that. he frequently raped cercei while drunk. and he spended all the money of the throne. which is the reason that Tyvion has so much power

Have to understand how powerful house Stark was because Ned and the king are absolute battle brothers, while the Lannisters were obvious opportunists during the rebellion. The king visited Winterfell, while it should be the other way round. That is something to mind, looking at how the situation unfolds.

He’s a tragic hero and a twisted parody of traditional fantasy heroes like slaying the dragon, saving the princess and overthrowing evil King.

@@simple-commentator-not-rea7345 because rhaegar targaryen stole his wife (from his perspective at least) and the mad king murdered his best friend's brother and dad in a horrific way just because he wanted to, Robert is more a hero than anything else, hes not perfect but still a good man

@@tereza1959I wouldn't say Robert was particularly noble in his youth, more a medieval fratbro with zero discipline and some delusional thoughts, but he had a great many moments where you see that he could have been a good man, even a great man. Unfortunately the Crown and the loss of Lyanna, no matter how skewed his love for her was, broke him. No excuse for his actions, especially not his refusal to punish Gregor Clegane and Amory Lorch, but Robert is mostly pitiful and tragic rather than outright loathsome

Robert had his personal shortcomings but he did much to stabilize the Realm. He won the throne by right of conquest and managed to keep all the great houses from tearing each other apart, which is an achievement in and of itself. Marrying Cersei was probably the greatest political move he ever made but it led to his downfall in the long run. You can only lay in bed with lions for so long before you get mauled.

Back when the show was truly amazing. It felt like an actual lived in world with real people. Instead of what it turned into, it ended up like a hollywood action movie trying to have the biggest most flashy moments instead of good writing and characters and plot
