In the books, after he's convinced Robert not to take part in the tourney, and while he's being more and more aware of the Lannister plotting treason, Ned enjoys seeing Robert on his best behavior and cannot help himself but think that this is still his childhood friend, and he then has no doubts that if he were to find proof of the Lannister treasons and present them to him, he'd tear them all apart, and if Tywin were to dare rise up against him, Robert would smash him like he smashed Rhaegar. It obviously doesn't happen like that, but it's sweet to see how Ned deep down trusts the Robert he knows

Think about it, things only went to shit when Robert died.
@Libellulaire9 ай бұрын
Things went to sh*t when Littlefinger put his plan into action. When Robert died it turned bad faster though, of course, but even before that the situation was bad: he was surrounded by people he couldn't trust (and he knew that to some degree) and he was basically "invaded" by Lannisters. He mentioned it, he knew about it. Yet he let it happen, he let Tywin take control over the throne bit by bit over the years. They just couldn't take full control of it while Robert was still alive since he was a strong man who still had a lot of strong allies.

A tragedy we never got to see Bobby B in his prime, the demon of the trident. It would be epic as shit to see him carve through the army like butter, wielding a giant warhammer like something out of warcraft, then fighting the crown prince himself, his eyes near glowing with rage, until with one epic swing the rubies shatter into the water, the armour making the sound of ice cracking as it caves in, the slow motion flying back of Rhaegar into the water, the blood covered antler wearing 6'6 Robert roaring above the bloodied corpse.

Ned being an honorable fool was actually good on the long run. Even though the Starks are almost gone (as far as northeners know) all of Ned's vassals still plot against the Boltons in the books, just because they want to avenge Ned and his family. He grew up far away w/ Robert in the Vale, and still he built such a trustworthy relationship with northern folk that they were willing to risk everything to defend and avenge the Starks. Just goes to show how the North works. It even traces back to the old kings of the North - the king who knelt basically gave up his throne right away to Aegon the Conqueror because he didn't want any northern blood to be spilled. Meanwhile, houses like Lannister and Tyrell only exist because they were vassals backstabbing their kings in order to climb the social ladder.
@silversnail14133 ай бұрын
@@boitrash4279 Do you think Ned would be satisfied with the fact that so many innocent people had to die just so his House could rise to the top? Having Daenerys killed earlier would have prevented much of the chaos and bloodshed that occurred later in the show. I guess you could argue she played a vital part in the battle against the White Walkers but really the Starks had that one covered and Arya ended up destroying the threat herself. Acting earlier against Cersei or aligning himself with Renly would have at least bought him some time and possibly allowed him to save Catelyn and Robb. Ultimately the Starks ascension to independence had more to do with Sansa's political opportunism, Bran's magical Three-Eyed Raven powers and Arya being an overpowered one-woman army than Ned's old-timey notions of honour. Ironically it was Jon Snow who adhered to Ned's values of honour and duty for the longest and he still suffered for it in the end. I think Ned would have been rather appalled if he could see what became of his House and family in the end.

@silversnail14133 ай бұрын
What should Robert have done? Immediately gone to war with the Lannisters after he was already spent from beating the Targaryens? Marrying into the Lannister family was basically a political necessity for the stability of the realm and he couldn't help the fact that his wife was an incestuous scumbag. Tywin basically had the whole realm over a barrel by the end of the rebellion and he was going to ensure his House prospered in the long run so there wasn't much choice other than to play ball with him. I suppose Robert's greatest mistake was spending so much time drinking and sleeping around that he didn't realize his children were actually Cersei and Jaime's, but even if he had discovered the truth and had them executed it still would have led to Tywin flipping out and taking revenge in some way. The only possible compromise would have been forcing Jaime to take the black and serve out his days in the Night's Watch so he could keep his head but not be able to continue his affair with Cersei.

we needed more characters like bobby b. robb stark and robin arryn named after him too what an icon. he was such a breath of fresh air, would've made up for a lot in the later seasons, just an all round incredible character.

I like how only Robert has had the guts to raise his voice at the Mountain and stare him down afterwards. Robert in his prime versus the Mountain would have been a helluva fight
