Not surprising. He just went into the network's executives' office and convinced them to give up on the other actor they had hired. He did the same to Jo Bennett.

The steamroller part with Jim is incredibly intimidating and a complete power move. The entire time he’s asking Jim “will you be steamrolled” he’s really saying “are you in control here” and Jim says yes, but RC knows Jim is only saying that because he isn’t actually in control. Brilliant

Seemed to me like he also reaffirmed Jim's yes Robert: You don't seem like the kind of person who will be steamrolled by anybody, is that true? Jim: Yes Robert: Yes! I really admire how Andy reacts to this list the office saw Robert had made. Throwing/attempting to throw a pizza party when Robert takes the “cool kids” to dinner. In addition to giving James Spader a way to show off his expertise playing eccentric characters, Robert California gave opportunity for us to see the other characters squirm. I especially enjoyed Jim’s reactions to Robert.

Which was established with the original BBC "The Office"... always play to the camera. There is supposed to be a documentary film crew in the room capturing everything, so use that as a comedy devise. That's how Ricky Gervais' David Brent went from an average boss to a mediocre boss. He started haming it up for the camera crew because he was an attention hog. The U.S. version's writers started forgetting that you use the fact that someone was sticking a camera in everyone's face, so that should affect how they acted.

@@ZeufAabe I personally don't feel this way. The show had already gotten much more complex by season 8 and heavily focussed on characters. If they would have introduced another boss like micheal or deangelo I would've honestly stopped watching, so it was breath of fresh air to see a character that so doesn't fit in the environment trying to adapt there, plus he was only there for one season. Season 8 was almost entirely saved by Robert and Dwight though, everything else had just gotten too meh.
