Which was established with the original BBC "The Office"... always play to the camera. There is supposed to be a documentary film crew in the room capturing everything, so use that as a comedy devise. That's how Ricky Gervais' David Brent went from an average boss to a mediocre boss. He started haming it up for the camera crew because he was an attention hog. The U.S. version's writers started forgetting that you use the fact that someone was sticking a camera in everyone's face, so that should affect how they acted.
