The voice change at "What is this? is this death?!" always gets me. HE DESERVED THE TONY. Absolutely mindblowing.
Oh my gosh, I just noticed: Jekyll is right-handed, while Hyde is left-handed. Until about the end of the eighteenth century, the left hand was considered the 'hand of the devil' and people were pretty much forbidden to be left-handed... SPOOKY!
@JeNn0mic0n9 жыл бұрын
Notice how Jekyll records his notes with his right hand, while Hyde writes with his left. Perhaps symbolizing the differing personalities even further, or maybe right vs left side of the brain? Either way, it's awesome and so is this performance!
@Norway6048 жыл бұрын
+volpe3fuego Yep, almost every adaptation of the original story has Hyde being left-handed and Jekyll right-handed. I did it for my own stage version, and it opens for the possibility of so much artsy mumbo jumbo :D
@ariana.m.lamark8 жыл бұрын
There's also a theological theory that left is the direction of the Devil; Hyde writes with his left hand so that fits with that theory.

JeNnDyLyOn it's a direct product of dissociation. In the case of Jekyll and Hyde, the two are separate peoples living in the same body, Jekyll's body dissociating from his person and Hyde's taking control. The different persons can have anything from different personality traits to different handedness to even different body chemistry (including allergies, cholesterol levels, mental illnesses, etc)
@thomasbrown77167 жыл бұрын
JeNnDyLyOn but the artistic side is to show how all of us truly do have 2 people living inside of us... good and evil. There's a constant battle in every man, to serve the good man, or the evil one. The show takes it in a very literal sense and wants to show it using the case of someone who literally has a good man and an evil one fighting for control of the body, but it's something we can all identify with, even if we're not dissociative

@@Norway604 its actually in the book too, they make a point to reference that hyde writes with his left

This is one of the most brilliant performances I've ever seen in my entire life. I would give an arm anda leg to go back in time and see Cuccioli and Eder in this.

Ariana LaMark I got to see both of them when the show was on preview on Broadway...they were freaking amazing!!! 3 rd row from stage...will NEVER forget it!!!

The atmosphere they create is brilliant. The chiming of the clock in the back when everything is silent and the audience is taking in the appearance of Hyde is so eerie; you feel like even breathing would cause him to take notice of you and it's a thrilling feeling. Also obligatory comment about how hot Robert's Hyde is.

Like, come on!! His voice change at 4:44 gets me EVERYTIME!

The way he sort of runs his hand over his crotch before saying, "Unexpected developments." Lol. Goddammit, I love it when he's Hyde.

god DAMN this is what i call acting!! ive seen others where they awkwardly drop to the floor instead of genuinely writhing and feeling as if theyre about to die. robert truly captures the descriptor of agony and the feeling as if you are about to die, bravo dude!!

That is incredible. An amazing performance. I don't think he overdoes it or downplays anything at all--the right touch of madness and everything mixed in between. Thanks so much for posting!

Wowsa! If I didn't know better, I would've thought it was two different performers. I wish I'd gotten the chance to see him perform.

I met Robert not too long ago, when he was playing Captain von Trapp in Sound of Music. He's such a kind, easy-to-approach kind of guy. And his voice is still PHENOMENAL.

And then he goes "Spider-man will die!!" and bounds away.

I love how when he's Jekyll, he writes with his right hand, but when Hyde, writes with his left. (I wonder if it's because, apparently, writing with your left hand is a sign that you're evil...)

I like how he switches dominant hands after the transformation.
@andremagalhaes6510 жыл бұрын
Does anyone else notice how in the beginning he said "11:56pm" and when he transformed he said "4:00"? I think it's because the original show the transformation started at 11:56 and ended at 12:00. Broadway had it done from 3:56-4:00 for some some odd reason.

I am a teacher and I am showing my students the David Hasselhoff version. Not trying to hate, he did a good job. But Robert performance is untouchable! Every note hit! Every character motive and intention hit! Nothing compares! They should have done the recording with him! As a theatre person, very basis, I am sick of big name ruining amazing characters!
