Starting half steps in dressage can be done surprisingly early in the training of a dressage horse. This is because understanding the concept needs to be done first without asking for a tonne of elevation or collection. So as you school your horse up the levels do no be afraid to try to introduce the half steps into the work.
In this video Olympian and US team coach Robert Dover helps a young rider to begin working on the half steps in dressage, which will lead the horse to develop the piaffe and passage work in the Grand Prix test.
This video was filmed at the Robert Dover Horsemastership Program in Wellington Florida.
