Robert Sweet: My favorite drummer... Not only due to his proficiency and skill with performing but also due to his personal swagger and style. There is only one Visual Time Keeper and that is Robert Sweet. Above and beyond that: In 2003, one of my closest friends and I set out to see the band during the "Seven" tour. We traveled from Arkansas to Sauget, IL to see the recently reformed Stryper. I had seen them twice before in the 80's though my friend had yet to ever see them live. We pulled up to the venue early - "Pop's" - got out of the car then headed in just to check out the venue. We didn't realize in the moment that it was only the band inside doing soundcheck. Robert greeted us in the room and was gracious to sign something for me and snap a pic with my friend and me. Oz and Tim did the same; Michael was still on stage getting levels. Not wanting to be a nuisance, my friend and I walked back out to the car and drove to the hotel, having a "did this just happen" moment. Later that evening, we were standing in line outside the venue, waiting to go in. It wasn't long before a figure emerged from around a corner of the building, opposite the direction of the line of people... It was Robert Sweet. Robert started at the back of the line and worked his way toward the front, literally shaking everyone's hand, stopping to talk for a second, and thanking everyone for coming. Of course, the concert rocked that evening, and the whole experience was simply a wonderful event in the respective life of my friend and I. I share this story as 1) My friend is no longer in this realm; he went home to live with The Lord in 2016, and 2) When I see Robert Sweet, I'm always reminded of that great concert shared with my friend, and I will always remember what a class act Robert Sweet was and is. This is a real treat! I agree..best Robert Sweet video maybe ever. The closeness..the angle..and you can tell he's having fun. To those that say he's not technically advanced..you are idiots. This is not Progressive metal. He's the PERFECT drummer for the style of music they play. I think his true value is that he seems to give a sh$t about drumming. Visually he makes you want to do what he's doing. The first time I saw Stryper he had the giant drum kit with 21 drums and cymbals and the gong and I wanted to be him.

Well, well, well....I've been a Stryper lover since my youth. If you're all talking about doing it for the Lord, then I suppose 10/10. As far as drumming goes...he's not not great, guys. Not even good. Robert, and it pains me to say it, is mediocre at best. But he's good enough that a lot of non musicians will buy into his theatrics. He gets credit for that. But he can't even play the parts he played on the record anymore, and those weren't mind blowing to begin with. I love this band. But Stryper would be in a league of their own if they had a drummer with the chops to match Oz and Mike's playing. That being said, Robert needs to practice.

But I’m saying as a kid his drumming was sufficient for this band and visually he made a lot of kids want to play drums.

Robert is the best Rock METAL drummer, hard hitting, precision, creativity, perfect timing, amazing drumming vibe, really transmits what and how he feels just watching him is Amazing!!!.... looks easy but the breaks and fills are not... believe me!!!! It could be several things, if I had to say it's either the stage layout / technical limits, maybe a new perspective after all those years being on the other side, maybe so they could all see more cymble n technic sence it looks like there is more cymble on the audiences side here, maybe preference. I am a Christian heavy metal drummer who always been amazed by Robert and I meet him once in Ohio at the reunion tour. I am taller than him but he is still the main inspiration and drive for me playin drums and trying to copy all he does both on technic and speed / double drums. I miss the iconic 21 cymble 21 drum kits vic forth sticks paiste cymbles he had in the 80s. Sadly I was born in 1988 so I missed so much of thair early n wonderful career. Keep on Rockin on for christ my brother.

I believe several bands played that night and they shared the drum set. Notice that the bass drum had a monsters of Rock head on it. The drums weren't set up for Robert to play, but rather for all the bands that were playing that night.
