Thank you for this gift Bruce. The Next Waltz did an outstanding job. No words for REK, the man, the myth, the legend. Just WOW!!!!

Seeing Willie and REK at Floore’s Country Store were both bucket list items that I was thankfully able to check off. Both are one of kind. Glad REK went to that Picnic!

His catalog of songs is truly the soundtrack of my life..he was only a few years ahead of us, and with Lyle became to stand for Texas, although even that was a limiting description of his talent. I'm glad he made it to a good spot in life, and he and his family look so happy in the pictures recently. It's hard to know "when to say when" and IMO he nailed it. Sorry about the bus...:D

He is one of the most visual song writers there has ever been. He, Prine, Isbell and now Zach Bryan, can pen a song and bring those visions flooding into your mind.

If you haven't listened to John Baumann, give him a go. Talk about a songwriter that can fill REK's shoes...

One of my favorite times at the Ark was Robert Earl's show. Great band, great songs, & a great atmosphere throughout the entire venue created by him. Sad he's not going to do it again, but the memory makes up for some of it

In New Braunfels High School at the turn of the millennium, we did indeed say "kicker"
@alanleach2179 Жыл бұрын
There was a huge '70s country station in Houston KIKK, so the bumper sticker proclaimed one as such, a play on "%&%t kicker" and in Austin it was the golden years of KOKE FM, and I have one of those on the Cadillac to this day!

One of the best in Texas. Loved his farewell show at Floore's the other night (on demand). What will he do in retirement? Hopefully some new great music.

Caught Robert Earl Keen close to a half-dozen times in Colorado over the years. He's got a slacker persona in his songwriting, but gd he brings it in the live shows and recorded music. I caught on early that the band was traveling around drinking beer and mailing it in. They enjoyed the show on stage, and the behind the scenes rehearsals and discipline instilled by the bandmaster made for a damn good show every time out. Rich Brotherton on guitar and "Bryan Duckworth, my best friend since the third (?) grade, on mandolin." Corpus Christi Bay. Dreadful Selfish Crime. Mariano. Rollin' By. #punkaf Knocking down Shiner Bock and buying rounds for the Texans, who were especially fond of Nine Pound Bass -- which I never got until I saw the interview where it's a metaphor for an unexpected stroke of good fortune. Something like Mick Jones' Carbon Silicone's Big Surprise. Live and learn. smdh what a gd artist, singer and songwriter you are Mr. Robert Earl Keen. Thanks for the great times. Corpus was a favorite because my brother introduced me to REK with a cassette tape of A Bigger Piece of Sky, one of the best damn albums of the 90s or any other decade. Reached into my pocket found two twenties and a ten. Feels so good feelin' good again . . .

Great 12th man analogy, although not a myth. I’d bet in any show there are folks in the audience who would be willing and able to jump into a spot in the band.
