I'll elaborate a bit and tell you how these songs were written. The fellow sitting to the right of Mr.Fripp is my old friend Terry Blankenship. Both Terry and I were accepted to go to the original seminar at Claymont Court in W. Virginia. Terry went, but I was too broke to pay the expenses and you had to get there on your own. When Terry returned he told me every detail of what took place at the seminar. On the first day Mr. Fripp introduced them to the tuning (C-G-D-A-E-G) and explained the basic concepts of the technique he wanted them to use. He then had the group break up into smaller groups of three or four players and they were to write compositions in the new tuning and style. The next morning each group presented their compositions. After they had finished showing the compositions to the entire group Mr. Fripp informed them that they were playing a concert that evening. The material was to be the songs they had written and they then had to learn the compositions as a group. On the third day Robert informed them that they were playing another performance that evening. I am not sure, but he might have also had them write new material for that show as well. The songs on the first League of Crafty Guitarists LP was a "best of" compilation of these songs. Somewhere I have a 90 minute cassette of all of the songs they wrote. I can't promise that I could find it any more. Also, they used the Ovation guitars at Robert's request and I can't recall if you were supposed to buy one before attending the seminar or not. The guitars all had custom built DI boxes built by Audio and Design (Recording) Ltd. and the sound you hear is almost all from those DIs except for the AKG C24 stereo mic which Tony Arnold was also using.

LOL I was there and you weren't! Now, if I was making this up wouldn't I tell the story and say that I WAS able to afford to go? In truth, it was all along time ago, but I will tell you something that will put the timeframe into perspective... while I didn't go to Fripp's seminar I did end up working on a Stephen King movie instead (making money and not spending money.) The movie was the really crumby "Maximum Overdrive." With the money I made operating the camera crane on that movie I bought a recording studio with a friend. About a year later, Tony Arnold (he recorded the video here, most of the The Crafty's stuff as well and Fripp and Summers' stuff... I advance Masked, etc...) came over to the US (Texas where I live) and produced an album for my friend Terry Blankenship (the guy to Fripp's immediate right.) I still communicate with Tony, but I only rarely talk with Terry.
@dbbubba017 жыл бұрын
I wish that I could find it, but I have literally hundreds and hundreds of cassette tapes from that era. I have moved my studio four or five times over the last thirty years, so that tape could be anywhere. If I do stumble across it I will post it, but I don't have time to go track it down. That was all another time and era in my life.

I was at the show at Georgetown University’s Gaston Hall, possibly the youngest member of the audience. Arriving slightly late, the guitarists were already playing and as I approached, I can only describe the sound from the exterior of the hall as something akin to a harpsichord in 4D. When Robert stood up and played, it was one of the most amazing and unforgettable experiences I felt as a member of an audience. At that moment, the energy in the room was one spirit and intense. The feeling of connection was definitely palpable... magic happened

Look at Fripp 4 minutes in, after standing he seated ; literally hanging off his stool he solos with The energy of his collective, those assembled around him playing such a choir to the gods. It's not so much when he stands, but twixt the final moments where he sits and sees what he has created. Pure energy and love flows through these movements

I love Fripp, Eno, et al, and are surprised I wrote what i did !!!!

What im referring to is all these guitarist seam to not venture on to be heard or create their own music of similar style orvfor that matter any style at all.
