(FR) La Galerie Nathalie Obadia est heureuse de présenter pour la première fois l’œuvre de l’artiste américain Robert Kushner. Né en 1949 en Californie, il est l’un des principaux représentants du mouvement Pattern & Decoration qui s’est développé au début des années 1970 à New York, où il vit encore aujourd’hui.
L’œuvre de Robert Kushner s’est construite en opposition avec le minimalisme et l’art conceptuel alors en vigueur, défendant un retour au motif, à l’ornement et au plaisir esthétique à travers des influences d’Orient et d’Occident et un intérêt prononcé pour des formes d’art déconsidérées.
À l’occasion de cette première collaboration, la galerie présente un ensemble récent de peintures à l’huile, acrylique, feuilles de palladium et d’or au large spectre de couleurs, représentatives de ce syncrétisme heureux assumant sa fonction décorative.

(ENG) Galerie Nathalie Obadia is delighted to present the work of American artist Robert Kushner for the first time. Born in 1949, in California, he was a key figure of the Pattern & Decoration movement, which was founded in the late 1960s - early 1970s in New York, where he still resides today. Robert Kushner created work that evolved in opposition with the minimal and conceptual art that dominated at the time; and he championed, instead, a return to motif, to ornamentation, to aesthetic pleasure according to Western and Eastern influences, and a clear interest in overlooked art forms.
For this first collaboration, the gallery presents a group of recent oil, acrylic, and palladium - and gold-leaf paintings, in a large spectrum of colors. His works incarnate this happy syncretism, which fully embraces its decorative function.
