When God lays it on my heart to do something, I ask God to let my husband know so he can confirm I get from the Lord. 1. Because God is the head of our marriage and 2. All the attributes from the Holy Spirit, from God. Those fruits of the spirit you mentioned, are attributes that we received from God in Spirit. They're not tangible. You are thinking with the human mind. This is something that cannot be measured with the human mind. Submit yourself to the spirit in order to receive the knowledge about spirit. This is not just book smart, it's not in the physical. They are "spiritual" . With that being said, it does not prove those are attributes from a "person". You don't necessarily have to be "human" to have those attributes, because they come from Spirit. From God. We have those attributes from the spirit. The spirit does not have those attributes from the person, the other way around. Maybe I'm over speaking it I'm just trying to get my point across. I love your teachings, I think you're an amazing teacher and feel blessed you have helped me to understand much of the word. However the holy spirit gives me a different understanding about this subject.

That is an excellent teaching on the Mighty Baptism in the Holy.Spirit. I just know Rev Morris is baptised in the Holy Spirit. I would like to add, I ways thought that the gift of tongues was a person could speak tongues anytime they wanted, no.only the 120 on day of pentecost had " gift" of tongues. They would have to have supernatural ability to speak and interpret all languages in order to spread the gospel to all the earth as Jesus commanded !!!

I have never undrstood this Scripture. How does one understand every word one speaks? How hard does one have to concentrate to understand the words as well? Almost my life, when I could have been praying, I was stultified, thinking I should understand all the words. The amount of concentration and energy needed is high. Then again, it all comes down to not seeking God properly, etc, which again leads to despair and guilt. I landed up in a mental institution for a year and a half because of this guilt. Seriously, especially now I would "pray at all times." I am not going to forbid myself to pray anymore because, "oh, I don't know what I am praying." It has been one long trip of guilt and despair, from Watchman Nee to Tozer to Spurgeon to others who portray God as the Father who is just never, ever satisfied, as in never: always criticizing, always ready to judge, which He will do, every single word and thought. No wonder Christians fall away. There are people in this country who hold two or three jobs. Maybe God gives them special grace. The best example I have to hold on to is Jackie Pullinger, who ministered around Hong Kong praying in tongues. Maybe she understood everything she was saying, all the time. Bully for her. Me, I just pray, with as much intensity as I can muster, when I can, although you won't see me double over crying out to God in the bus. Let me guess, I should be doubled over in intercession on the bus. Eish. So many years wasted cos you first gotta thanks, then praise then worship then pray for this or that person hoping it is the right one, using this that and the other "Word of God." It is so complicated. Seriously. It should not be. Incidentally, this morning I was being tormented in sleep paralysis. I did not know it to be demons, but after a while I thought I should cry out to Jesus. What seemed like a minute or two I woke praying in tongues. "Seek first the Kingdom of God and it's righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you." Also, Acts 15:28. Oh, and thanks to Pastor Morris I started praying in tongues after a really long time. I heard the whole "beware of demons praying" sermon a long time ago. Really? God suddenly vanished out the back window? He can't keep you? Just. Pray. Pray pray pray pray. Teachers of Scripture are going to be judged even more harshly on that terrible day of the Lord. Even Paul wasn't sure he would be saved. God help us all. Paul is in Heaven, btw.

God forbid I ever should pass judgement of any kind whatsoever upon the men of God mentioned earlier, Watchmen Nee, Tozer or Spurgeon. It is just one really needs God in this day and age: sometimes one cannot fulfill all the requirements preached in the past. I think you can be filled with the holy Spirit and still not speak a word in tongues. Those that were filled with the holy Spirit in Acts chapter 2 I believe it was because of the setting that they were in. On that day in Acts chapter 2 men from All Nations unsaved were there. I know several men and women that are saved filled with the holy Spirit but they never spoke in tongues. I believe it is a gift and God gives that gift to whom he determines. That's what his word says.

Do you really think we cannot lose our salvation, Brother Robert? Why then, are we told to "repent or else our name will be blotted out of the Lamb's book of life?" Rev 3:5. Or, "our lampstand will be removed from it's place." Rev 2:5. We are taught in The Lord's Prayer, "and forgive me for my tresspasses, and I will forgive those who tresspass against me." Matt 6:12-15. I loved this teaching, except I cannot believe in ONCE SAVED, ALWAYS SAVED. If you turn your back on God, go back out into the world (stop asking forgiveness), you will find yourself spending eternity in hell, besides the fact that you are grieving the Holy Spirit. I was concerned that you took down your 2015 message on praying "in the Spirit," or speaking in tongues. I thought maybe "THEY" had told you to take it down. It was real good! if you have to teach someone how to speak in tongues it doesn't come from God. Prayer is suppose to be done in private. Preaching is suppose to be plain and loud. I've been born again for 3 years and i know for certainty Jesus Christ revealed himself to me. And i've yet to speak in tongues. I see videos of people doing it in churches and i know for a fact what they're doing com pulsing all around screaming and jumping around isn't from the spirit of God. Speaking in tongues was meant for private prayer. And it was used because in private it doesn't matter what you say because it's in your heart the things you want and need from God. So when in prayer you get caught in the spirit while talking to God.That is speaking in tongues on a biblical standard. But when preachers and people in church start jumping around and their eyes are rolling around that is un biblical. The perfect example of the holy spirit in flesh is Jesus Christ. And you will never hear an example of Jesus Christ rolling around com-pulsing that isn't the Holy Spirit. The devil has gottenm into the people acting and jumping around not the Holy Spirit.

And it reads ....... "Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified." GOOD OLD FASHIONED STUDYING THE WORD which continues to build me up into the Bible Teacher of many that I am today. The “tongues” Pentecostal and Charismatic Christians are producing today is an entirely self-created phenomenon. It is non-cognitive non-language utterance; random free vocalization based upon a subset of the existing sounds of the speaker’s native language, and any other language(s) the speaker may be familiar with or have had contact with. It is typically characterized by repetitive syllables, plays on sound patterns, and over-simplification of syllable structure. “Tongues” may be either spoken or sung. Due to the nature of how it is produced, no two people will ever have the same “tongue”. People believe something to be supernatural because they can't explain it otherwise. There is _nothing_ however that these ‘speakers’ are producing that cannot be explained in natural linguistic terms. Conversely, there are no Biblical references to ‘tongues” that cannot be explained with respect to real rational language. Indeed, the patristic view supports “tongues” as rational (foreign) languages. Early Pentecostal/Charismatic ‘tongues-speakers’ looked for Scriptural references for what they were doing, since their original supposition (xenoglossy) definitely wasn’t it; however, Scriptural references were simply not there. The resulting implicit theology was not a synthesis of revelation and philosophy, but rather a synthesis of trying to make sense of the “tongues experience” in light of the narrative of Scripture. In other words, a way to legitimize the modern phenomenon by ‘proofing‘ it in the Bible, despite the obvious overwhelming absence therein of anything resembling modern tongues - call it what you will, but the result was a virtual re-definition of Scripture with respect to the understanding/justification of modern “tongues” for this group of Christians. Two of the best examples of this classic re-definition are the phrase “praying in the Spirit”, and the word “tongue(s)” itself. The Greek word translated “pray in” can have several different meanings/nuances. It can mean “by means of,” “with the help of,” “in the sphere of,” and “in connection to.” Praying in the Spirit does _not_ refer to the words we are saying. Rather, it refers to _how_ we are praying. In the three places the phrase is used (Corinthians, Ephesians, and Jude), there is absolutely no reference to 'languages' in connection with the phrase. Therefore, “praying in the Spirit” should be understood as praying in the power of the Spirit, by the leading of the Spirit, and according to His will. In Pentecostal/Charismatic parlance however, the phase has come to be equated with 'tongues'. A reading into Scripture of something that was just never there. The word “tongue(s)” is simply a more archaic word for (real) “language(s)”, nothing more. Replace “tongue(s)” with “language(s)” in these passages and the whole modern Pentecostal/Charismatic concept of “tongues” begins to become difficult to posit - “language(s)” sounds a lot less mysterious. In Pentecostal/Charismatic parlance however, the phase has come to be equated with the modern concept of “tongues-speech”. Again, a reading into Scripture something that was never there. “Tongues” is simply not what its ‘speakers’ want/need it to be. Modern tongues is just another tool, like chanting or meditation, etc.; a way by which one may establish a closer relationship with the divine and strengthen one’s spiritual path. In this respect (i.e. as the _tool_ it is), it can be quite powerful to accomplish this goal, as attested by many of those who use it. Most people who use it are very keen on describing the ‘experience’; however, when examining the “mechanics” behind it, not so much. Indeed, when a person has experienced tongues, s/he is absolutely convinced as to the ‘scripturalness’ of his/her experience and the correctness of his/her doctrinal beliefs, despite the overwhelming scriptural absence of anything remotely akin to it. Contrary to Pentecostal/Charismatic belief, there is no ‘continual chain’ of tongues in the church; just sporadic reports of individuals producing what, in a few examples, appear to be similar (if not identical) to modern tongues. Unfortunately, most of these writings describe the experience, not the mechanics behind it. As a result, they are more often vague at best at describing what is actually happening with respect to language/tongues. What Pentecostal/Charismatic Christians are doing today, 150 years ago, did not exist in the Christian tradition. “Tongues” is to some Christian believers a very real and spiritually meaningful experience, but consisting of emotional release via non-linguistic ‘free vocalizations’ at best - the subconscious playing with sounds to create what is perceived and interpreted as actual, meaningful speech. In some cases, I would argue that it is clearly a self/mass delusion prompted by such a strong desire to “experience God” that one creates that experience. It is interesting to note that certain types of schizophrenia will present with glossolalia. Why is it that what they are producing is immediately recognized and labeled as “gibberish” virtually without question, but when Pentecostal/Charismatic Christians engage in glossolalia it is deemed ‘sacred’ and is called “speaking in tongues”? Both are producing is the exact same thing, done in the exact same way. Known by many different names, “tongues”, or more accurately “glossolalia”, is practiced by many cultures and religious beliefs from all over the world; it is relatively new to Christianity and certainly not unique to it.

How do you interpret 1Cor 14:2? We are speaking to God an “utterance of mystery” that no man can understand. Maybe the real issue is people uttering these mysteries in group settings, confusing those who don’t understand what Paul was speaking of here. I have found that the ones who speak against this teaching are actually justifying why they have not experienced this grace gift. There are those who are using gifts improperly, but it doesn’t mean the teaching is wrong. Paul was quite clear about tongues.

Many people tend to use 1 Cor. 14:2 as ‘proof’ of modern tongues - If I attend a worship service in ‘East Haystack’, Alabama two things are going to be evident: one; there’s only going to be so many people at that service (i.e. there will be a finite given amount of people there) and two; the chances that anyone in East Haystack speaks anything but English is pretty slim to nil. If I start praying aloud in say Lithuanian, there’s no one at that service that’s going to understand a bloody word I’m saying. Even though I’m speaking a real language, no one there will understand my “tongue” (i.e. ‘language’). That does not mean or imply that no one else understands Lithuanian; just no one at that particular service. Obviously too, it in no way implies that I do not understand what I am saying. There’s a few things here to note - first, the passage in no way even remotely suggests that the speaker does not understand what he himself is saying; it’s the audience who do not understand, as they don’t speak his language; thus, it ends up being a real language “no one understands” (within that given context). To the people listening to me, I am speaking “mysteries”. An idiomatic expression akin to our “it’s all Greek to me”, i.e. we have no clue what he’s saying; thus, he’s “speaking mysteries”. People like to quote one line without finishing the sentence - it’s not “no one understands”, but “no one understands HIM”. The speaker understands what he is saying; it’s his native language. Praying “in the Spirit” is another misinterpretation by Pentecostal/Charismatic Christians. Praying in the Spirit does not refer to the words we are saying (i.e. the language we’re praying in). Rather, it refers to how we are praying. Praying in the Spirit is praying according to the Spirit’s leading. It is praying for things the Spirit leads us to pray for. There is no reference to ‘languages’ in any of the three places mentioned above. If the current phenomenon of ‘modern tongues’ is found here, it is because it has been read into it. ‘Pray in the Spirit’ has come to mean in common Pentecostal/Charismatic parlance, ‘Pray in tongues’. A reading into scripture of something that was never there to begin with. So even though that I am praying being led by the Spirit and I'm praying earnestly and from the heart, the bottom line, as far as Paul is concerned, is that I'm praying in my native language; one that no one else at the assembly understands, so no one is benefiting from it but me. Yes, Paul was very clear on languages. First and I think foremost, it is critical to understand that Corinth was a multi-cultural, linguistically diverse city on not one, but two ports. As a major seaport city, one would expect to find a constant influx and varied mix of visitors, travelers, transients, freedman and slaves. Though Greek was the language of Corinth as well as the ‘English of its day, i.e. almost everyone in the Mediterranean basin was familiar with it to some degree, communication in general between people from different lands and countries must have been difficult at best as it would have had to be conducted in Greek; a language, not everyone knew equally well. A church, any organization really, tends to reflect its environment. Since Corinth was multilingual, one would also expect to see this diversity reflected in its church. Given the demographic make-up of Corinth, and the common everyday issues such cultural and linguistic diversity bring, to postulate anything here but real language being referenced just doesn’t stand up to the reality of the situation. Not everything in the Bible needs to be divine or miraculous; sometimes it just describes common everyday issues; in this case here, one of clarity and communication in a place where those two things were difficult to achieve. The whole context of 1 Corinthians 14 is the effect upon the hearers of untranslated languages. Paul’s concern is the edification of the group. Throughout this part of the text, Paul calls for clarity and understanding at a public worship. He lays down some rules and guidelines for those who do not speak the local language of Greek well enough. Again, there's just nothing there that does not refer to real rational language(s).

Nevertheless, the speech is real Chinese. Though the speaker himself cannot understand the foreign tongue, anyone who knows the Chinese language will understand the speech perfectly. So when the Bible uses the term "tongue," it is NOT referencing a strange, nonhuman pattern of speech or utterance, nonsense babbling or gibberish. On the contrary, the term tongue in the Bible simply means a NORMAL SPOKEN HUMAN LANGUAGE - though a language the speaker himself does not naturally understand. We can see this truth at work in Acts 2 when thousands of new Jewish Christians began to speak in unknown tongues at Pentecost. In Acts 2:4-8. we see that these "tongues" were normal, human languages that many foreigners in the crowd could understand naturally: Acts 2:6 And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language. Acts 2:7 They were amazed and astonished, saying, “Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? Acts 2:8 “And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born? They simply spoke in FOREIGN LANGUAGES they didn't previously know. Truly, that was a miracle. So, speaking in tongues is NEVER a practice of uttering gibberish or chanting repetitive sounds. Speaking in tongues was the speaking of actual foreign languages, not gibberish. It was miraculous because the person was not trained in that language but now spoke the language fluently. This gift could only be given by an apostle placing his hands on a Christian. Since all the apostles have died, these gifts cannot be transferred to anyone today. Please think about this for a moment. What would be the point of the Holy Spirit revealing in an unknown, unintelligible language only to need another person with the gift of interpretation reveal the meaning so all could understand? I hope that we see that this does not make sense. Why would God reveal himself to particular person in gibberish to all people so that another person could interpret? Why not cut out the middle man and just reveal in a language that is understood by all? A picture that makes much more sense is that the Holy Spirit revealed his will in a language that some in the church understood. A Christian with the gift of interpretation revealed this to the rest who did not speak the language. This fits what we see later in 1 Corinthians 14 when Paul gives further directions about using the gift of languages. The message for us today is that we have the perfect (complete) revealed will of the Lord written down (New Testament) James 1:25 by the apostles and prophets so that we can know God (Ephesians 3:3-5). God blessed the churches in the first century with these gifts until the apostles and prophets could record God’s word which would be preserved for all time to bring people to himself.
