For whatever reason.... Robert was under-appreciated as a musician of the 1980s. For me one of the best songs from that fantastic time.

Agios Nikolaos, Crete, Greece. September 1981. This song was played a lot in the bar next to the apartment building overlooking the sea front when I was there. The song had been released in 1980 but this was the first time I'd heard it. I'd stand on the balcony looking out to sea listening to the music below. It always brings back memories of that place.

Agreed 100%, Mick...this song has EVERYTHING...the lyrics, the instrumentation, the cadence & the atmosphere...& in this version, some of the best touring musicians of the time...can't believe that we lost him at only 54, more than 20 years ago now...just like this song, this guy had EVERYTHING...great looks & sensational sartorial style (good luck saying that if you have a lisp!), that typically 'northern' charisma & sense of humour, a wonderful voice & a great mind for songwriting...the guy was a fucking STUD!! Cheers & best wishes to you from 'Down Under', mate...take very good care out there...Matt.

For those who care, and because some of you were talking about specific musicians, Robert is being backed by: the late Jack Waldman (keyboards); Chris Bishop (bass, keyboards); Alan Mansfield (guitar); and Michael Dawe (drums)
@debinnc18877 жыл бұрын
Craig I genuinely care who they are. Which of the two keyboardists is wearing glasses? It is painful to know that another of these men has passed. If you know who the musicians are playing with Mr. Palmer in others of his songs on KZbin, would you identify them as well? Thank you!
@jerkimer7 жыл бұрын
Deb--I am relieved to know that...because one wouldn't generally get that impression by many people who upload videos. Yes, Chris Bishop is the one with the glasses. I have, actually, identified musicians in other Robert Palmer videos...but please let me know which videos you're specifically referring to. I am currently writing a biography of Robert Palmer, so I have spent a lot of time trying to correctly attribute musicians in both videos and photographs...if I'm stumped, I'll send the photos or clips to some of Palmer's closest confidants to see if they can recognize the players. Thanks for the message, Deb.
@d.merkerson94807 жыл бұрын
Craig, You have just become one of my heroes. Truly! Would you be willing to communicate with me other than through this comment section? There is so much I would like to share because we are trying to achieve something similar. I have been researching Mr. Palmer in hopes of writing a book on him but not a biography. I realized it is beyond my ability to write one. I have tried to find other ways to make it happen. Your note could not have come at a better time. Thanks so much, Deb
@jerkimer7 жыл бұрын
Deb--To highlight the synchronicity of your message, I'll start off with the concluding sentence from it: Your note could not have come at a better time. I don't care how it happens, but a book on Robert needs to be written--whether by 1 or 15 people--because it's several years overdue. I have been struggling for ten years to complete it, so I will welcome any and all help. You have piqued my curiosity and I am anxious to hear what you have in mind. Please contact me at craigciccone@sbcglobal.net and we'll go from there. Craig
