Robert Patrick tells multiple Clint Eastwood stories and shares what made Clint give him props one day on set after a monologue.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Robert Patrick (Peacemaker, Terminator 2) joins us this week and shares his unique perspective in this industry with a forty year tenure, no practical training, and missed opportunities before he found sobriety. Robert opens up on how despite how iconic his character as T-1000 was in Terminator, and how he owes his career to James Cameron, he had to change his appearance to distance himself from the character. We also talk about his chemistry and bond with John Cena, how Demi Moore’s psychic helped save his life, and how Robert got Clint Eastwood to break on set uncontrollably.

I always felt Robert was under appreciated because his acting is so effortlessly natural. The T1000 was so effective because Robert did not overplay or overact. His acting is so instinctive you only see the character. Unfortunately I think this has led to him not being appreciated more which is a real shame. I loved him in Copland, a movie chock full of great performances.

What an outstanding and versatile actor he is. He always comes across as a very decnt chap. People, rightly, bring up his performance in T2, The Unit, X-Files and many other memorable outings, but one that often gets overlooked is his appearance in the Sopranos. From what I gather, he had very little preparation time and yet blended in seamlessly and held his own against the powerhouse that was James Gandalfini.

There was one story from an actor I can’t remember the name of who said he did his lines, turned to Clint and say I think I need to do that again. Clint just quietly said “Why, just to waste everyone’s time?” Clint’s directing is so effortless and that makes everyone just flow. The downside is that he makes it looks so effortless, his fold d on t always get the recognition they deserve. Ironically it’s the same with Patrick here.

Robert Patrick seems like a genuine, good guy. That may seem like modest praise but not when you consider the level of celebrity he belongs to.

I wish host on talk shows would let their guest finish their sentence instead of constantly interrupting.

It's amazing how actors can memorize lines. I struggle to remember my grocery list.

Clint is an actor that was part of the transition from the tail end of the Golden Era of Movie Making to the Sixtys & Seventies Era. His directors hat is epic with many praises by notable actors and production staff. Time is money on set.

Actually the "nothing extra" monologue that Clint gave in "The Outlaw Josey Wales" was a wonderful one. (even though i know there were some cuts away from his face- meaning possibly patched together dialogue.) But I don't think Eastwood gives himself enough credit as an actor. But Robert Patrick in T2 was always one of my ATF bad guys.
