Watching Becoming... The Batman in full on BBC iPlayer in the UK: bbc.in/3pyJLN3
Robert Pattinson joins BBC Radio 1's film critic Ali Plumb to tell all about taking on the role of the Batman, DC Comics's iconic superhero. He reveals how he thought he'd almost lost the role before he'd even started shooting, and looks back on his favourite moments from past Batman movies. Plus, he explains how doing roly-polys on the set of Christopher Nolan's Tenet prepared him for the role of the caped crusader.

@BBC Radio 1 I sincerely request R Bats pop round to my house ASAP so I can get some things off my clavicle, so if he can please be told to rolly poley his way over to my neck of the Home Counties tonight or tomorrow in the morning then we two might stop the medicated clownery that is drowning out the dirge in my heart for some moody unstable goth anti heroism. I mean I need to chat to the brother and pronto (ASAP) though I am a bit off my head with some pills I took so will probably be ranting incoherently, no different from any other day then :-D Seriously Radio 1, I wish to speak with Mr Pattison about a personal matter and it does require him driving to my home in a reasonable fuel efficient motor vehicle then exiting and knocking my door until I appear. If R Pats is not free please send Ali Plum round to mine ASAP. I have settled nerves unlike the last time I spoke with the chaps. Be cool lads, I respect you as blokes and wish to talk. Can you serve England good sirs? If so get round mine soon please. If you receive no answer or my sibling says no entry try again an hour later. I am recovering from more bullshit with the NHS et al.

7:10 - Well, rest assured, his eye-acting is phenomenal in 'The Batman'. - I didn't realize it until after the movie, but he said so much without saying anything. This is supported with how they captured him, of course, but he showed so much emotion through just the way he used his eyes. It might sound pretentious, but it's impressive how they pulled that off. It's kinda like how the cartoon-Batman needs to do it, but they did it through the static holes of the mask.

Yes indeed, you worded this perfectly. Just some phenomenal camera shots of BATMAN, hats off to tremendous direction and story. Mr Pattinson’s presence as BATMAN is second to none, the way he moves, walks, talks, the eye movements and mouth movements, facial expressions right through the cowl.To the whole cast and crew, and director Matt Reeves thanks so much for this masterpiece. Pattinson potentially could be the greatest Batman we've had, this first portrayal was brilliant & can argue this One Film stands against the Bale Trilogy & has me excited to see how this Reeves Trilogy stands against that when it's all said & done, I really think they could do 5 films with this Batman considering the Keaton/Kilmer/Clooney Batman is the same Batman & they did 4 films for that version, here's hoping DC straps A rocket to pattinsons Batman 🙌🏽

Saw the film yesterday, in my opinion better than TDK . I would give it a 9.6 - the opening scene is probably the best hook I’ve ever seen, it’s quick, short and made me think I was watching a horror film. The only con is the beginning of the third act simply due to the fact that the first and second act were unearthly (but the beginning of the third act is necessary for the rest of the third act, you’ll understand when you see it).

@@kingrobert7246 Usually film enthusiast will say something like acts in a movie. But basically what it means is simply just the beginning parts of the movie, then the middle and ending. Acts are actual terms in filmmaking. Average casual viewers don’t say these things and you’re right that you don’t hear a lot of people say this but you will if you stumble upon people who are really into movies and filmmaking

I just came back from watching the first day first show. I AM SHOOK. It was exactly the way Batman was ever supposed to be! The other batman movies were great but I think everyone had this thought somewhere in the back of their mind, "Batman's supposed to be this sad, grief-ridden boy turned into a vengeance menace man." He's not a playboy because he didn't find comfort in anything or anybody. He's not a spendthrift but rather finds his family's legacy a cause for his parents death. In this movie, the darkness that shrouds him is portrayed perfectly. Personally I went in expecting this movie to be Twilight-y but came out shocked! Robert Pattinson has done a lot of great movies, but THIS is one of his best. And I think everyone will agree that this is the best Batman movie along with The Dark Knight Rises. And Kudos to Matt Reeves for his awesome directorial performance.

Amazing movie. The most Batman movie there has been by far. He’s probably my favourite Batman in live action as well. Some people may have a problem with his Bruce Wayne, but I like the idea that this is a young Bruce Wayne that doesn’t want/know how to be Bruce Wayne. He’s just always Batman and can’t be asked to pretend to be the billionaire playboy.

I definitely think Pattinson’s reputation has finally taken the turn it deserves. The Batman was definitely what caught everyone’s attention and showed them how good he is. Tenet, The Lighthouse, Good Time etc are all great examples of his acting talent, but they aren’t quite mainstream. Tenet is a Christopher Nolan movie so it’s kind of mainstream, but it being released during a point in the pandemic where things were still kinda bad, as well as some reviews not really giving it a good rep, meant that it didn’t quite make the impact something like Dunkirk did. The Batman is a huge deal and was released at a much better time, so it’s finally showed mainstream audiences how good he is. He’s definitely got a good future ahead of him when it comes to roles- he ain’t ‘the Twilight guy’ anymore.
