Strange, Plants vocals sound so much stronger on the bootleg versions of this song from the same source. But you can certainly see why Page tripped out when he first heard Plant and wondered how he could not possibly have hoooked up with a major band by this point.

“Hey Joeeeeeeeee” That voice, that mother-f’cking voice.... Some 40 years later, you look back at beginnings of monumental artist like Robert Plant and it seems like destiny that they were bound to make it. Elvis, Jimmy, McCartney, Axl, Slash, etc. I would have given my left nut (and right) to have lived their life. It seems incredibly unfair that certain ppl were touched with incredible talent, while 99% of the rest of us were destined for on a 9-to-5, white picket fence existence. Blows!

Robert Plant did people a great favour with this low-priced compilation with the second CD filled with rare songs recorded with Band Of Joy and with his various bands for movies and special compilations.. This version of "Hey Joe" really surprised me. Ok, the guitar player in Band Of Joy wasn't Jimi Hendrix but the vocals definitely fit this song... That's a really good version. And it's just a demo !! I wish he had recorded it again with Led Zeppelin.
