It so funny that a lot of us had the same experience with Unsolved Mysteries when we were young. It was our favorite show that kept us glued to the TV, but Robert Stack and that music scared the shit out of us. LOL

Maybe my memory is faulty, but the one that scared me the worst was something about these people waking up with gold foil coming off of their skin. First a kid had it, and then others in his family had it, and they couldn't figure it out or something. Anyway it scared the shit out of me and I legitimately did not sleep after seeing that episode. 😂

This show used to scare the piss out of me as a kid...according to Unsolved Mysteries, every child kidnapper drives a white van with tinted windows. I'm out driving my go kart, and look behind to see that very van, following me every turn I take. Paranoid as hell from the previous nights UM's episode, I was way too focused on the van, and not on the mailbox directly in my path. WHAAM! I flew in the air like a bat outta hell. Wrecked my kart and bruised myself up pretty good to look up and see that van drive right past me...thanks Robert Stack!

It seems like virtually all entertainment: television, film and even music has scaled down in quality and content to the point where I don't bother trying to keep up with them anymore. Once you've experienced an awesome show like Unsolved Mysteries, hosted by Robert Stack, you begin to measure others against it, because it's become the "standard" and when all contenders are blown away...you realize it was TRULY once in a lifetime event it was. Reminds me of that song written by Prince and covered by Shannad O'Conner: Nothing Compares To You...R.I.P. Mr. Stack....what a talent. Lifetimes bring the show back...I'll start watching TV again, promise.

Growing up when this came on, shit got real scary real quick! Especially if they were talking about aliens, or killers who hadn't been found, or ghosts, or you know what just anything, it was all scary!

The Dexter Stefonek episode or the one about the Connecticut River Killer are the ones I remember. Another one was about a medical student who went missing while driving from Alaska to Washington State to start university.

For me, where I was in the early 1990s, this was on during the 9-10 pm slot, and Rescue 911 (with Shatner) was on during 8-9pm, but they were different days (respectively Wednesday and Tuesday)

One of my favorite shows of all time. Classic, eerie opening. I have to admit it was kind of funny to watch a modern day Dennis Farina host while some of the interviews shown were still straight from the 80s, complete with mullets and mustaches.
