Classic commercial promotion for Death Valley Days with Robert Taylor and western artist Joe Grandee. We are pretty sure this is from 1967 because most of the paintings used have copyrights of 1967. Digitized by www.thewesternschannel.com from the original 16mm film reel from the Bob and Johnie Terry film archives. This 16mm reel came from the estate of Joe Grandee and may be the only copy of this commercial to still exist. Robert Taylor of course was a very popular actor starring in many movies, many of which are westerns. He also worked in television on several tv series and he was the host of Death Valley Days from 1966 through 1969. Taylor took the hosting of the show after Ronald Reagan left to enter politics. Joe Grandee lived in Arlington Texas and was a very popular western artist. His work in this promo spot includes the 20 Mule Team Borax action painting he was commissioned by Borax to paint. Joe is known as King of the covers, because of all his western art work that was used on True West magazine and several others. Make sure to watch for all the classic television commercials we are releasing from our film archives every morning in July of 2024. Thanks for watching.
