Robert Townsend is Black Hollywood Royalty right before your eyes people! You could see the inception of In Living Color when you look back at Robert's HBO comedy specials in the late 80's early 90's!! Its not about if his movie's bombed or not. His desire, passion and life long goal was to help balance out the images of black people in film because all you saw for years were stereotypical interpretations !! Robert is Hip Hop because his style is original, creative, and his focus is on building from nothing without regret!! They need to give this man his props now!!! He is a legend!
@akimsmyer52546 жыл бұрын
@ghostrecon755 that's why his legacy is burried. Imagine how many he influenced in the 90's! Hollywood can't have that. This is why we must be vigilant in keeping and telling our stories before our history is lost and or rewritten. TBC is doing a huge disservice to the culture when they fail to do research on guest they may not be all the way up on. They have a responsibility that comes with the platform - the station has nothing vested in our culture so it's allowed. Thankfully Sway does his homework.

J.B. what's funny to me is if Bobby wouldn't have messed up his legs in the beginning of the movie, there would have been six singers on stage. Just something to think about.
@DeiHarper93616 жыл бұрын
@@maceymc.7612 No, I think Duck wasn't supposed to be a singer. Or chior boy because he kept getting trashed off stage by the audience. So one of them wasn't gonna sing that night which is why he wrote it in five part harmony.

Wow.. i remember meeting this man in atlanta in 91' at lenox square mall at either the premier, or early screening for meteor man..i was eleven yrs old, and my mom walked me up to him(because he was greeting all people leaving the movie) and he greeted me with the first "man" handshake i ever encountered in life..it instantly made me raise my head, stick out my chest, and look him in his eyes...as to say..be confident, be proud and have some self- esteem about yaself young fella...and i still carry that with me until this day.. i never forgot that..thank u rob!!! youre a hero in my eyes sir.!

"The Parenthood" one of the greatest black sitcoms of all time. Unlike now, the 90s had a balance of shows from the wild and crazy Martin, Wayans Bros, to the Family Matters and Moesha's while Parenthood always stood out as a more contemporary approach to black family's in the 90s. Robert Townes wanted to be that Cliff Huxtable of the 90s.
@davidhill70716 жыл бұрын
Nick Lee, you are right, there was a bunch of good black cast shows on tv. Remember Malcolm & Eddie, Hangin' With Mr. Cooper, The Hughleys, LL Cool J's In the House, Livin Single, the list goes on. Now you got scripted reality shows that do nothing but make us look stupid as hell.
@nlee45666 жыл бұрын
@@davidhill7071 Exactly the list goes on. The Steve Harvey Show, South Central, Thea, The Smart Guy, Where I Live, Out All Night, diversity in shows and black TV. Your right, Reality shows have ruined the image of black people.

I remember a few years ago was when I found out the group wasn't real lol I mean it is up there in terms of black musical biopics with The Jacksons: An American Dream and The Temptations! Having a documentary is a GREAT idea because with the movie being a classic after all these years, giving longtime fans a behind the scenes look with all of those famous names (at a much younger stage in their careers) is a wonderful thing! I can't wait to see it!

Great comment! That's where a lot of folks first saw a chunk of the future 'In Living Color'cast as Damon, Kim, & Keenan Waynans, David Allan Grier, & Tommy Davidson were all on Robert's Hbo specials. I still remember Tommy Davidson's standup routine & of course Mr. Townsend used this show to introduce the world(outside of those in the know in L.A.) to the one & only Mr. Robin Harris. "How everybody doing? Yeah Robert, 'bout time you have me on the show- you test tube baby!"
