My mom passed away last week and I have been needing a creative way of dealing with it. I think I found it. Thanks for all of your wonderful videos Bob. For years they have brought joy and creativity to my life. ❤

I understand the loss of losing a parent. I lost my dad and it was a major blow to my spirit and my heart. Prayer, doing pyrography (woodburning), watercolor painting, combining the two together and other things are helping me deal with the loss. Hope it helps with the pain in your heart. The pain does not go away overnight. It’s going to take a lot of time. Give yourself time to grieve as well as be creative. 💙

Bob, I enjoyed watching your demo, especially after all the terrible republican airings. Their newsclips are scary and, from Canada, our hearts go out to sane Americans whose country is in such a turmoil . Keep painting and try to forget about the bad choice that is being offered. Hi Bob, a message from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I love your video's! They make me want to start painting and do collage. Could I ask you a very simple, rather prosaic question? How do you stick your paintings to the wall? With magnets? Or...? I work in my living room and try to find a practical and not to ugly way to attach my work to the wall. Tank you for your suggestions! Pietha

Thank you for your generous giving of your time for #497 Blasts. I am at the beginning of painting and can't justify 300# WC paper. Most of my efforts now are Do, Learn, Circular File, Begin Again. Looking for a cheap surface to use without 'fear.' What about 2x or 3x gesso'ed cardboard? Or a handful of hardboard panels --- paint, learn, gesso over the last, paint again? Any insights are appreciated.
@jeraldbaxter353210 ай бұрын
Like you, I am curious about the paper, and I can't afford the heavier, expensive watercolor papers. I don't know about cardboard, but years ago, I played around with lighter weight water color paper (less expensive), but I am guessing mixed media, Bristol and several other types, with a coat of gesso, might work. He is encouraging us to relax and not have rigid expectations, or at least that's my take on it. Try cardboard and whatever else you can afford. See what works for you. And most of all, enjoy!

I have thought about the issue of cheap paper and have come up with this possible alternative, freezer paper. Freezer paper or butcher paper has waxed surface on one side. Use push pins to hold down the corners of your painting surface, paint or gesso on the unwaxed side of the paper.
@Colorbyleah10 ай бұрын
I did splurge on the 300 lb paper and realized it’s not for me. There are less expensive papers available, that are still heavy, and with a coat of gesso would be as good or better IMO.

Using colours directly from the tube or jar drives me crazy ... I'm always telling my students to mix their own colours. Don't be lazy .... with thousands of colours to choose from .... colours you get from the store are only beginning colours. Do the mixing. Paintings are always more successful when you do the mixing IMHO .... I love the variety of your wall landscapes ... these look great ! ! 1
