Black marker (like these PCB markers or any other) to cover edges of cutouts would help to hide shiny metal that's sometimes visible.
@RobertCowanDIY Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was planning on that, but forgot to say it! No matter how tight you get everything, you're still going to see the metal through the edges.

I was pretty disgusted by that .004" lip on the AC jack. I'm glad you fixed it. hahaha Awesome project. Looks great.

Haha, right? I should have put a warning on the screen before I showed it. I hope it didn't make you sick.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm of course gonna use the tools I have, but the same thing could be accomplished with hand tools.

This is an older video, so I don't expect you to remember - but when you send your part back for a second round at the router around #7:00, how did you manage to get everything realigned so nicely? I imagine you used the same screw holes as before, but even that would be a little bit off , no?

I do remember! I just re-drilled the hole pattern in the spoilboard. By drilling the holes in the spoilboard, you're assuring that it will line up and you don't need to indicate anything. The hole pattern is already 'indicated', so it's just a matter of drilling the holes, screwing it down using those holes, and everything is lined up and indicated.

@@RobertCowanDIY That does make a lot of sense! But isn't there still a little bit of wiggle room between the edges of the holes and the screws that could offset the entire job quite noticably?

@@EirikBrandalfIf you use countersunk fasteners, they should self-align everything. I undersize the holes in the wood and use countersunk screws and it's good enough for something like this. You're really at the mercy of the MDF though, as it's not overly rigid of course. But the same thing in aluminum (with tapped holes) would yield very repeatable parts.

I like to use a paint pen to paint over the shiny countersinks.

That's the film that the panels were packaged in. There's no sense in removing it before I need to assemble everything. The chance of getting it damaged is quite high, as I tend to just toss stuff on my bench all the time.
