Subbed. Great content, and I’m glad camcorders are getting some love. I have a question tho. Starting a channel with street interviews. I live in Norway, so long dark winters, but will mostly film when the sun is out. Do you think the Panasonic 2000 is good enough? I just need to to have a sharp picture, reasonably steady and my gf is filming so it needs to be easy to use. Great channel. Love how you go so deep on a couple of products

Thanks. For low light, you will probably want a larger sensor, something 1" or more. I've got a video coming up showing the difference between a 1/2" sensor verses a 1" sensor in a camcorder, and you would do yourself a favor and shoot in low light with as big of a sensor as you can afford. If you are adding the x2000 to a setup that already includes a mirrorless camera, the you would enjoy the other benefits of the x2000, such as portability, long zoom, small package, excellent image quality. You can get good low light performance out of it, but you have to work hard. So, good luck. And let me know what you do.

Thank you. Question : I want to buy a camcorder for me to start shooting for weddings. What do you suggest for me, HC-X1500 or HC-X2000 or HC-X2? Kindly advice.
@RobertHamm

Thanks for your question. Please subscribe! Hcx2. If you only have one camcorder, you're going to want the HCX2. If you have multiple camcorders or other mirrorless cameras, and the roll the camcorder will play is for general coverage in most lighting conditions and for zoomed in coverage and good lighting conditions, then the HCX 1500 would be a good choice. I do not use the HCX 1500 as a primary camera in low light situations for weddings. It's always a secondary camera because of its low light performance. This has to do with wedding receptions being dark, generally. However, I do make videos with the HCX 1500 in extremely low light situations, like at night. Just not for wedding productions. So, if you were only going to get one camcorder, I would suggest the HCX2. Before you purchase the HCX2 you should also consider other mirrorless cameras. As a system, mirrorless cameras are much more versatile than a camcorder because they can do both photo and video. You can also change the lenses to suit the purpose, and the low light performance is always better even in older generations compared to some of the newer camcorders. Most people that ask me about getting the x 1500 for weddings as a primary camera won't be satisfied with the low-light performance. Me, I'm very skilled and don't have a problem shooting in low light conditions at weddings with HCX 1500 when it's my only option. If I have another option, I will use it as a secondary camera. You can see some of my videos that talk about this directly. Just search the channel. Most people don't need a camcorder and would be better suited with a mirrorless camera. For that, I suggest the Black magic 6K or fujifilms HTX1/2, or an XT3 or newer, or a Sony a73 or newer. I don't often shoot Cannon or Nikon anymore, but they make fine mirrorless cameras that take excellent video as well. When it comes to camcorders, sensor size and sensor generation are extremely important. The HCX 1500 has a 1/2.5 in sensor and that's pretty small compared to its contemporaries. So, before purchasing the HCX 1500, do your research. A lot of it. I love the little camera. I use it on almost all of my family outings when I make music videos, and for editorial or documentary type of work. It's small, lightweight, and has an excellent picture quality. But those situations are much different than weddings. Good luck!

is there a 12 bit camcorder today that can function as a cinema camera? is there any 4/3 micro format new camcorders today so one can keep using ones Panasonic Lumix 4/3 micro lenses but on a camcorder, a camcorder that can change lenses, like a broadcast / cinema camcorder, that got great built in ND filters, all the buttons on the side, XLR plugs, great LCD and a better viewfinder !
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm Жыл бұрын
Function as a cinema camera... Yes. People have made movies with iPhones, so the term "cinema camera" doesn't necessarily mean much. Can you shoot a feature film using a camcorder- absolutely. Should you? Absolutely. The most obvious example would be the Blair Witch Project. There are many more. Just Google it. The scenes presented in this video, specifically the low light videos and the final sunset scene, show just how capable a camcorder can be. As for ILC camcorders, yes. JVC made an interchangable lenses camcorder with an APSC lens at one point. It has been many years since I interacted with it, however, you can search that on Google as well for more info. As far s everything else, yeah. Prosumer and professional/broadcast Camcorders have everything built in. 2021 professional camcorders and newer also offer improved codecs and bitrates. Many even offer shooting in Apple Pro Res formats. What more could one ask for? Cheers.

I'm glad you liked the video but I think you missed something. Maybe I didn't make it clear enough in the video. The title card says the camcorder name, it's the Panasonic HCX1. I believe that I also said at the very beginning that you are seeing two images at the same time through most of the video- both images are 8-bit. One is the internal recording of the Panasonic HCX1 at 4k 150 Mbps and the other is the HDMI out to Ninja V at DnX HR SQ. That bitrate is much higher- somewhere 180-200 MBps, that Mega Bytes over Panasonic's Mega Bits. It's an enormous increase. My point was to show that the additional information captured on a field recorder using an older camcorder with an older sensor will not provide much benefit. The only case where it will provide a benefit is with fast moving subjects- something I didn't show here. That will be another video. However, my ultimate point was to show that specs aren't everything and thinking that an old 1" 8 bit sensor is no good is the wrong mindset. Lastly I wanted to show how good a small sensor could be in low light. Many people completely ignore camcorders because they think full frame mirrorless is so much better. In many ways full frame is better. However, as I showed in this video, a camcorder is still a great tool.

Any camcorder that can record in apple pro res will record in up to 16bits 4444 color sampling at it's highest quality setting. Just search Google for apple pro res camcorders. The JVC GY500 can do it but needs a special SSD caddy.

Hello Robert, I have two questions for you. I am owner of a Panasonic X1500 camcorder and very happy with this but still wonder which format should be best for Messenger sharing ? I believe 4k shooting is not necessary in this case. Second question : In 4k shooting, which one will give me the highest quality (of course) not for Facebook or Messenger in this case) I'm a bit lost with 422 long gop 150 m or 420 long Gop and all these different options. Would realy appreciate your help . Thanks so much. (i'm a beginner in videography)

If you want to edit the recording: MOV 4K 422 LongGOP If you want to share directly from the camera: 4K or FHD 420 HEVC When editing, you can change 4K to FHD, which will further improve the quality.

Do you know if the HC-X2 supports external recording over HDMI or SDI? I can't find any information about this AT ALL.
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm 6 ай бұрын
Did you download the manual? Download the manual and look at the video out for HDMI and SDI. The information is there. Also, Adorama and BnH have very detailed specifications for products. Always check them if you are looking for something. They are a good resource. But ALWAYS download the manual for tech you want to know about. Yes, 1080p 60 10bit on SDI and UHD 60 10bit on HDMI. Just set your output settings on the video/EVF menu. It would be really nice if Panasonic unlocked RAW output. They could, but they won't. The Big Brother (AG CX350) would be the device to get an update like that, but it hasn't, and probably won't ever. The X2/x20 is based on the 2019 designed Cx350. So, if you hear of an update for that camcorder, then a trickle down feature update usually follows for the X series. Well, I hope it does at least. Cheers and good luck.

@@RobertHamm that's odd. Why does the CX350 have rolling shutter but the HC-X2 doesn't? Are they not the same platform? Also: GOOD GOD this is one hell of a manual! Holy shit.
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm 6 ай бұрын
It's a big manual. Search for cx350 Book and Brochure. You will find several Panasonic made PDF books all about the CX350. Everything in them applies to the HCX2 with the exception of some CODECs and physical differences. As to rolling shutter, I don't know why you think that. The CX-350 has a great shutter, barely any rolling shutter. This is the same with the x 1500 in 2000 series as well as the AGCX 10. Even the older HCX1 and UX180 had good rolling shutter. You'll find a lot worse in cameras these days. Of course, none of them have a global shutter. There would be no rolling shutter with a global shutter. The HCX2 was rumored to have a global shutter before release, but that has since been debunked. I even reported on it and one of my videos. The HCX2 is about 3 years newer than the AGCX 350. As far as I can tell, they are using the exact same sensor and software. This is something normal for Panasonic. I did a video about the different series Panasonic offers: AG, CX, HC, UX, DV, and so forth. The current HC combines everything from the previous UX, and a few of the features from the CX series. Panasonic basically killed off the UX series with the HCX2. Before, there was a series of cameras in between the CX 350 and the HCX1. That was the UX 180/UX90. They were kind of in between however, they were almost identical to the HC series except with broadcast features. Anyway, all cameras have a rolling shutter if that camera does not have a global shutter. Very few cameras have global shutter currently. So, as far as rolling shutter goes, I don't think the CX 350 has bad rolling shutter at all. I think it's really good. Yes, you can make it show rolling shutter by panning fast with a slow shutter speed, but that's the same with any camera. However, even when pushing it with run and gun situations, I think the rolling shutter is great. Very well controlled. But that's just my thoughts.
