This is the sewing tutorial for Sew It Like A Man sewing pattern 055 Wrestling Brief. Men's flat cut wrestling brief. Slightly higher waist than swim briefs. Fuller rear cut and longer leg. Suitable for knits made of 100% cotton, cotton blends and synthetic fibers, such as polyester, elastane or nylon. Knits should have 50% stretch.

What's the best method if we want to make the waistband higher? Looking at the pattern makes me believe adding an inch or two to the top would take in the waist too much.

@41:05 Instead of taking out basting stitches after sewing elastic. I would have taken them out after serging side and crotch seams. Is that right? Otherwise GREAT video instructions

That's fine as well, but I keep the bating in so that the lining doesn't pull away from that area while I'm sewing on the elastic.

The pattern doesn't specify the direction for greatest stretch.

Can you recommend a serger for someone new to sewing? I have about 10 garments under my belt with a common intro sewing machine but want to move into knits.

I use the Brother 1034D and 1034 DX. The D runs just under $200 and I think it's a great all around machine. I've seen it on the shelves in Wal-Mart and I think I've seen the DX in JoAnns. The DX is a bit more expensive, but it's basically the same machine. You can of course get in online.
