I got gas there two years ago. Went in from Cody, and was lucky enough to get a room at the lake lodge cabins. Great ride.

My father was born and raised in Wyoming, 1909, the way he talked in was still the Wild West, sort of. I finely got out there this spring. Wish I could have taken him but he passed away several years ago. Still nice to actually see where he was from. I liked that whole western area. I’ll be going back I’m sure.

Great video, Robert. This is one of the best rides in America. In fact, I went digging through some photos from early September 2003, when I drove the Cody Highway and went over Sylvan Pass. At about 10:58 is where I encountered some still-smoldering remains of a fire 🔥 they were combatting.

It is a great ride on a bike, with great destinations on either end as well. Cody is such a great town to visit, with so many things to see and do, and on the other end is Yellowstone, and aside from being very busy most days Yellowstone is an incredible place to visit. Have you been on the Buffalo Bill Byway?
@andyhyatt8104

@@RobertMerz Yes. a couple of times. It is almost better than YS itself (mainly due to traffic)
@RobertMerz
@RobertMerz 2 жыл бұрын
Yellowstone itself has some pretty nice rides too. The trick is to adjust one's mindset and just accept the traffic. The other trick I have been quite happy with is to ride fairly early in the morning and fairly late evening and the roads are much less busy.

Still watching! Rode that stretch of highway several times. It's a beautiful ride. Have you ever stopped at Buffalo Bills hunting cabin that's on the right at the store just before you reach the East gate to Yellowstone. It's pretty interesting. Take care and be safe.

Hi Terry, glad to hear that you are still watching. I found the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway to be a very pleasant surprise and it exceeded my expectations. It reminded me a bit of Lolo Pass in Idaho, with its really pleasant, sweeping corners. It really is a beautiful ride. I did not know that Cody's hunting cabin was there, I really wish I had known about it as I really enjoy that type of thing. Buffalo Bill Cody was truly larger than life, a very fascinating individual. Thank you, and you be safe as well!

You guys about ready to load up and get out on the trail for some epic riding & filming? I heard Silverton, CO, north of Durango, is getting hit hard with fires, and the smoke is too much for people to enjoy the Million Dollar Highway already in the Riding season.
@RobertMerz

Lots of things are going on around the area that are making for less than optimal videography, Not the way I like to represent things at least. That combined with our current schedule and it is going to be a while yet before we hit the road, and it may only be quite local this year.

OH MAN! You were right! I loved that trek from Cody into Yellowstone! So you did roll right past UXU Ranch, along the Shoshone River about 18mi from the east entrance into the park. Was that Yellowstone Lake off to the left in this clip? Looked massive and still. So beautiful as this trail find you nearly on top of the river and the lake! I plan to watch this clip a few more times. Was this Sept 2017? Evenings and mornings nice, cool & refreshing?
@RobertMerz
@RobertMerz 6 жыл бұрын
It really is a great access to Yellowstone, and yes that was Yellowstone Lake to the left near the end of the vid. By mid September it is pretty mellow weather, the heat of summer is gone, and at Yellowstone elevations it is cool and refreshing most of the day!

i have drove this many times on a bike it is a great ride why so much shifting
@RobertMerz
@RobertMerz 4 жыл бұрын
This highway is a really nice ride, in a really great area. As for all the shifting, I add sound effects after I edit the video, audio of shifting up and down, is far more exciting than just a steady drone of an engine. But you are correct in thinking that it is more than in reality. Thanks for watching, and taking the time to comment.

Beautiful road trip Robert. The scenery there's just amazing and the camera always so steady. How did you mount it to the bike to get a nice motor sound and no wind noise?
@RobertMerz
@RobertMerz 4 жыл бұрын
I built my own mount, rubber mounted with a counter weight to reduce vibrations. As to the sound I record the same sound that everyone else does, I just don't use it. Instead I strip the audio from the video and then build a new audio track from sound that i recorded separately for that purpose. It is a lot of work, but a much better result in the finished product.
@timsretirementjourney8323
@timsretirementjourney8323 4 жыл бұрын
@@RobertMerz Thanks. I wondered how you do that. I had wondered if you had a mic down closer to the engine or exhaust. I still have to figure something out for mounting my action cam for my trip out west in the summer. I have a few ideas though. I also have to mount a couple of USB ports for power but that looks easy enough.

Hey, how you guys doing up there this summer? I hear fire season is real bad in BC and appears to be hitting Glacier and No Idaho pretty bad with all the smoke. Was in Jackson Hole, Grand Teton NP a couple weeks ago, and the smoke got pretty south of Lamar Valley & Tower Jct.
@RobertMerz
@RobertMerz 6 жыл бұрын
The smoke is terrible, and throughout the province. If you are riding to see scenery, there really is little point in riding. I think we have been going on 4 weeks or so of this right now, and it is easily as bad as last year.
@DeBa1226
@DeBa1226 6 жыл бұрын
Oh boy, that stinks. It’s as bad everywhere as I remember it from last year. Have you seen a clear summer in the past? I get the feeling this is what every summer looks like. Looked at weather this morning and it shows Kalispell/Whitefish all socked in. I read Lake McDonald Lodge is closed now for the season. Northern Idaho-Coeur d’Alene/Spokane hit bad with it, as well as Seattle I heard. When I see families out riding bicycles wearing filtered mask, you know the air quality is bad.
@RobertMerz
@RobertMerz 6 жыл бұрын
This summer, and last have been the anomalies, mostly we have very dry summers with very clear skies. Some summers have had a week or two of wildfire smoke, but not this never ending smoke we have been experiencing. The area of Canada that our BC wildfire smoke is affecting is equivalent of from the Washington coast all the way through the Dakotas. It is a large area. But despite the media hype this is not the new norm, even our government environment officials are saying not the new norm. We have been in a drought situation for over 10 years, combined with management practices which have left large volumes of fuel in the forest, which is driven by social pressures, and we have had the perfect storm. Speaking of storms major lightning storms have triggered many of the fires. However it isn't all natural, as crazy as it sounds, 25% of the 600 fires burning in BC have been man caused! Every day that I ride I witness someone butting and tossing their cigarette out the window of their vehicle.
@DeBa1226
@DeBa1226 6 жыл бұрын
True! I’m hearing we’re all in a drought. I hear that logging was stopped and that needs to comeback (not sure that’s accurate). I had a guy give me a quote yesterday to landscape and rake out pine needles, as a preventative measure, and to walk the property, his partner wanted to first light up a cigarette... ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I stopped that before he even got started, but I’m blown away people can’t think better than that.

Thanks! That does help. Also, do you use Low Light or Pro-Tune settings at all? How do you keep the shaking down so well?

I use the standard, easiest settings. But you have asked the most important question, how do I keep the shaking down? If you go to my Facebook page "Dry Rock Studios" I just posted a pic of my mount with a very brief explanation that will probably help you a lot.

Hey Robert how many miles do you have on the roadliner and do you still have it.?
@RobertMerz
@RobertMerz 6 жыл бұрын
Still have the Roadliner, and still like it. It is a 2007 that we bought in 2011 with only 2000 km on it. We have ridden it a lot (considering the Canadian riding season), except last year when we were to busy to ride, and now have just over 70,000 on it.
