Nice video and a great performance by Baggio! I know I've said it before, but I really wish he hadn't left and that he had had the opportunity to play a full season alongside Sousa in 1995-96...he was the player Baggio needed alongside him in midfield all those years before, and I'm positive that that partnership would have been absolutely amazing! Sousa was so important in providing balance and making the team tick, definitely one of those decisive players that Lippi brought in that first season he was at Juve!

Agreed. Throughout his career, Baggio unfortunately did not have the opportunity to play alongside another top notch midfield playmaker, often leaving him with juggling both playmaking and goalscoring duties, which he did exceptionally well it has to be said. However, it'd have helped immensely if he had someone else to dovetail with creatively. Recall him forging an impressive duo of sorts with Dunga when they were together at Fiorentina.

@@footballsgreatest2645 Yeah, it's true! And at Juve, before Lippi came, it was incredible because Vialli and Ravanelli had almost forgotten how to score, and weren't even hitting double figures, so Baggio really was both the main playmaker and goalscorer. It's true that there was Möller, but although he was a world class attacking midfielder, with an eye for goal, but he was also a bit inconsistent. Plus, I feel like his role and characteristics sometimes overlapped with Baggio's, as they were similar in some aspects, and the latter often had to play further up as he was the better player and goalscorer overall, and so they didn't always complement each other well, and although Möller was creative and a good assist provider, for me he was not quite as technical or as good a playmaker or passer as other players in his position, and with Baggio further up they needed a major creative force. Sousa on the other hand was a pure midfielder tactically who defended and really pulled the strings. It's interesting though that Sousa and Möller did however later partner up at Borussia Dortmund to great success!

Agreed with that, I'd even forgotten about Möller when considering genuine playmakers. As you aptly mentioned he was more of a creative forward than a genuine playmaker in the mould of a Laudrup or a Platini.

Yes, one can see early in this highlight video how Baggio and Sousa link up really well, they were on a similar wavelength.

Baggio possessed so much creativity

True. It's really hard to classify him as a player given the goalscoring prowess, creativity and playmaking ability, that he possessed in fine balance. Throw in his tactical versatility (ability to play in the hole, up front, on the left or even from the right for Bologna), or how he effortlessly switched roles within a single game itself, it just makes it all the more ridiculous. Brilliant player.

It's such a shame that Juve didn't field Baggio in behind Del Piero and Vialli on a regular basis. It would have given the team a lot more creativity and composure. I believe that it would have taken them up another level. The same goes for Italy, Baggio and Zola/Mancini/Del Piero, with Signori up top.
