Hi, thanks for the great set of vids. I've just picket a cheap on up on ebay and intend on doing the same thing. Do you know if this will run off 5v (i.e. direct from a USB port)? The reason I ask is that i'm planning on doing this for use in an off-grid glamping accomodation and it would be handy to run it straight from a usb port in the wall! Thanks in advance, Will

I believe the radio is more like 7v so I’m thinking not, but you could try adapting it to run on 18650 batteries so you could recharge them on a usb 5v charger

Hi ive followed stage one two and three of the restoration of the roberts radio. I have recovered it and am putting it back together. I have a problem with the aerial internal socket as the aerial wire has sheared off. How can i reattach the brown aerial wire please.

Sorry just noticed your message If it’s come away from the circuit board it would need to be soldered back on. If you don’t have a soldering iron you can get a very cheap one for under £10 Good luck

Brilliant set of 3 videos on this process. I got one of these radios at an auction recently and someone had patiently removed all of the original faux leather lea ing the cloth backing. The only thing that looked bad was the handle. I had closer look at the radio yesterday and decided it would warrant a total recover. How hard could it be ? Lol Believe it or not i was planning to recover in the exact same shade of blue, but I will be using real leather. ( I have some that was originally used for aircraft seats). Is there any aspect of your recover that you werent 100% happy with and would change if redoing? Cheers Trev

Hi Trevor I’m no professional this was my first time ever covering a radio in the first lockdown and it’s still looks good today. I choose the fake leather because it stretched around the edges better and make sure both sides have dry contact adhesive before you apply the leather. I found that the thin laces that cover the gaps stretch so I made them slightly shorter when wrapping back around. Good luck
