The depiction of a neutron star in Cryengine/Lumberyard will be something to behold if it includes gravitational lensing, aurorae on planets and other such goodies. Keep in mind CIG that pulsars are tiny, ~10km across! But it seems you've done your research, its just worrying me that Banshee seems even larger than regular stars in the star map!

Jokke The Dark Pheonix I worry about perms death. It's a game about discovery, about wanting to find what's over the next horizon. You can die so easily in the combat already, if you don't feel safe to get out your ship, I worry people won't explore.

Apparently you have a number of "lives" you can lose before you perma-die. Also, bear in mind it's still alpha. They may well add mechanics so you have time to eject/run to an escape pod in the future so you've a reasonable chance of getting out alive.

A lot of people are understandably worried about it, and until the game's here we don't really know how it'll work exactly. However, it's been said that when your character dies, you don't lose everything. You basically create an 'heir' to inherit all or most of your stuff, and some of your previous faction standings, if that's how it'll work on release. We'll see when it releases though. Or enters beta.

Based on what ive read you will have different levels of injuries. The worst and even second worst can cause death if not treated right away, hence all the medical ships. Second, when you do die you lose your character, not your ships..etc. That will all be handed down to another character of your choice. Personally i love it, but i also played Eve online for 9 years. You put more effort and time in when you know it could all be lost if you are careless or idiotic. Plus, its not just about exploring. The game is about so much more. Exploring, building, mining, Money making, piracy, the vanduul, and the list goes on. Cant wait! ;)

I've been fascinated by pulsars for a long time. Not sure what to think about the fact that the pulsar on the star map looks nothing like it would look like in real life but I do hope the devs will make it realistic in the PU. You will have to choose how fast it spins. Most pulsars spin hundreds of times per second or even faster, but I think that could be too overwhelming to see, not to mention dangerous for people suffering from epilepsy. I think the slowest spinning pulsar ever found has a spin period between 2 and 3 seconds (you can google it for more accurate info). So I'm thinking it would be better if the pulsar in SC is one of the slower pulsars - maybe between 1 and 3 seconds spin period. To be honest, I think the harder part would be to decide how luminous it would be, and what color. I remember the neutron star system in Freelancer (and pulsars are a type of neutron star) and the neutron star there looked nothing like a real neutron star. It was brown and didn't emit any light, looked like a dead walnut. While it's been hard to find a good description of what pulsars and neutron stars look like, I've been left with the impression that they do emit heat and light - white or bluish in color. Can't wait to see what it will look like in the game.

I'm wondering... does your ship absorb radiation while on the system? makes sense if you had to go through some kind of "cleaning shower" or whatever after leaving to make sure your hull isn't irradiated to dangerous levels.

Deathcall's Call iirc neutron stars aren't more radioactive than ordinary stars, they're basically a giant superheated clump of neutrons afterall. so they would only(or mostly) send out gamma type radiation whereas ordinary stars send out more of a mix I think. that said, pulsars have huge magnetic fields trillions of times stronger than the earth so they'll probably interact with your ship through that. And getting into the beam would probably also kill you very quickly. Either way, just be glad it isn't a magnetar. Those things can have quakes that overload sensitive equipment over 50 thousand lightyears away. They'd instagib everything in their orbit.

There is, as mentioned in the video I believe, one known black hole, but otherwise there are no jump points announced by the devs which are close enough to see or be affected by the galactic core.

The Tamsa system is a black hole system with 2 planets.

Only regular black holes will be there, no supermassive ones! This is because the playable area of the game is too far from its galaxy's core and covers only about 1/10 of the size of the entire galaxy! That playable part of the galaxy is situated at the the very edge of the galaxy! It is well known fact, that each galaxy can have only one supermassive black hole spinning at its center! Thus ruling out the posibility of supermassive black hole or quasar or blazar in this game!

I think overall Adam did a good job. However, really needs to work on his enunciation for the word "electromagnetic" as he rushes the second syllable so much so it's almost dropped. It should be pronounced "electro-mag-net-ic", not "electro-mnet-ic". ;) Edit: I know I probably seem overly pedantic, but he is talking about science fiction using real life physics terms... I mean who could take it seriously if someone a scientist pronounced "1.21 gigawatts" as "1.21 jiggahwatts"? ;)

I didn't even notice it. At my university I hear a lot more odd pronunciations of common terms from other scientists. So most professionals probably don't care that much and the public doesn't generally know correct pronunciations. So in the end it probably doesn't even matter so long as it doesn't get out of hand.

The thing that triggers me is: so much lore, for so many planets, for so many star systems! How will they acomplish(make) all of them? They showed us in CitizenCon how easy is to create planets with their cryengine tech they've "invented". Yet, they have not complete a single star system. That really worry me. Francisco R Well, they aren't creating a single player campaign story, they'll just be using the lore as a guide for how things will look like on each planet. Also, Cryengine doesnt have procedural planetary generation. So yeah, they basically did invent it and integrate it into the engine ...Just a correction.
