im am a user of hjemmeplejen, i am fluent in english, so i have no problem communicating with english speakers, how ever i will say that it is absolutely critical that care workers are completely fluent in danish, otherwise it can in the worst case scenario cost lives due to miss communication, ie. medication dosages ect. No matter where you come from and what your field of job might be, i do strongly recommend that you do your very best to become fluent in danish, it will unlock doors for you.

A tip for network building: join one two clubs (foreninger) - sports, cultural, political. Foreninger are a big part of the Danish social fabric.

This is possibly the most useful video/blog episode that I have watched! That's probably slightly subjective to say, especially considering how helpful all Robe Trotting/WYIDID content has been for me before and during my move to Denmark, but this one just came along at exactly the right time and Leslea gives tons of really great and practical advice for job seekers here. I was literally taking notes and making to-do lists while watching and the first thing I did was to go and find networking events to go to. And they have been great! I've also since attended an English Job Denmark workshop with Leslea and I can highly recommend doing this. If you guys could get Leslea back for a Part 3, I think it would be amazing and really helpful to so many who are on the job hunt in Denmark at the moment. This kind of support is great! Keep up the good work 🙂

Honestly Denmark is the country of my dreams to move to, everything I have read, seen, and heard about Denmark is something I love, I very much would love contributing to such a society in any and every way I can. The Danish language definitely seems daunting, but I think being immersed in it would be beneficial in learning it, I have taken German, and Spanish classes here in the U.S. and never really had either of them stick because, for the most part, I never used what I learned so it didn't stick around. Right now me and my partner are looking at several different countries to move to from the U.S. from what I can tell Denmark is one of the most difficult, I have always heard a student Visa is the best way to go and effectively test the waters so to speak, I would love to further my education into several different fields including business, psychology, coding, and so many others. I have been able to keep my curiosity even into my 30s now and I am so thankful for that, I have a thirst for knowledge and in a place where it is affordable it'd be great to learn and absorb it.

What you are refering to about legally jobs who is posted is jobs in the public. Public jobs for longer than a year is legally required to be posted but a big chunck of them is filled by internal applications. I know because I am a native Dane applying for job.

You can get a job in Denmark even if you don't speak danish. Start with vikar agencies and accept any job and prove yourself as a good worker and as you work network and find your dream job. People are often to picky on jobs and if you are willing you can quickly move into new jobs.

Ryan Wuzer an American responded to a yt video - Americans what the most important thing an immigrant should learn when they want to live in the US... everyone answered: "the language" because it shows that you want to integrate and respect the country you have chosen to live in.... Just something to think about

@@RobeTrotting You talk about language and barriers in the Danish labor market. Of course there are jobs you can't do if you don't speak the language. You can't expect everyone to speak English, why should we when the language is Danish. Then I try to draw a parallel to the expectations for me if I, as a Dane, settled in the United States, where I wouldn't get far with my Danish language. You are lucky that a lot of people speak English, I would be a bit more på røven 😄 By the way, I love your podcast and that you are here, you enrich our country - I have followed you and Mike for a couple of years and love you

According to most think tanks, from 2017, Denmark "needs 35,000 new Danes/workers + family" every year until 2030 to maintain the workforce, the social pressure, care for the elderly, cleaning and the decline in the birth rate from its own citizens. So if you don't come here voluntarily and the Danes don't change their views on strangers/foreigners who come here, how the hell else is it going to be possible. Another reason is perhaps that the Danish politicians thought that everything must go so fast and in overdrive. Love your approach to life, the country, positive and curious. Stay tuned!!!❤👍🤟

Leslea is a very good tutor but I think my chances of finding a job in Denmark are very slim. Not because I was taught wrong, not because I'm incapable, not because I don't have adequate citizenship...but why?Only Danes know that. They expect every candidate who is not a native Dane to speak perfect Danish,to have a PhD in nuclear physics and to know everything about Danish culture and customs even though they will still be considered a foreigner.

Language is everything, when you talk about healthcare/nursing!! If you are sick, you dont want to bothered speaking english, and you dont want to worry about your pains being missed in translation, or culture differences!!!

I'm pretty sure, a Danish company can hire anyway they want. But for public jobs in government, kommune etc. it has to be posted legally. As for finding jobs, always meet up with an application. Don't send it! I've done that for 90% of all my jobs and almost always got the job. With that method, I've even gotten several jobs, where they weren't looking for someone. Just by meeting up and asking to deliver the application to the person in charge of my area of interest.

I really don't agree with the setting up a business for expats thing, as it means you'll live in a language and culture bubble as you are then still very much not fully integrated (or integrating) into Danish society or actually learning the language. Learning Danish is difficult of course but it really is the only way to fully participate in society, and in any society for that matter. Which I think is a very important part of moving to a different country, the feeling that you belong there so to speak
