She sounds like what you'd get if you combined the voices of Doro Pesch and Lita Ford.
One song recorded by like 5 artists in one year? How often does that happen? Very weird. That's pretty good props to Paul really. And, it's an awesome song, I can't believe it's not more well known. I love the KISS version the best, it's the one I grew up with, but out of them all I like this one second best.

Happened quite often in the ‘40s and ‘50s. I’ve read that there were six versions of On a Slow Boat to China in 1948, and five versions of Mack the Knife in 1956. Hard to choose a favorite version of Hide Your Heart. After KISS, I think I like Bonnie Tyler’s. But this version is great too.
@bobthebear12466 жыл бұрын
Fucking amazing. I've never even heard of Robin Beck before now, but that girl could fucking sing her heart out. On the Molly Hatchet audio, I stated that was the only version that matched the Kiss version. I was wrong. This matches those 2. This, I think, is the version that Bonnie Tyler had meant to do, and would probably have done if her voice had been in the same shape as it had been on *Faster Than The Speed Of Night.* Anyways, what a great version this is.
@zmbdog2 жыл бұрын
It's inevitable that people are going to compare the different versions of this song and I like hearing how much opinions vary on each. The fact that five artists recorded this in the span of a year is really the only noteworthy thing about it. It wasn't that big of a hit for anyone. I'm sure you would get bored of it but the comment section is for the audience, not the uploader. Let people speak! Anybody uninterested in that kind of conversation doesn't have to participate.

Nope. Paul Stanley wrote the song with Holly Knight & Desmond Child, while he and Holly were dating. Due to Gene & KISS' mgmt., the demo got shelved during the "Crazy Nights" sessions. In a not-so-subtle middle-finger gesture to Gene, (who Paul resented having to share mgmt decisions with due to Gene's absences for his fledgling acting career), Paul shopped the song around -with Desmond Child - & offered it to Bonnie Tyler, as both Paul & Desmond were convinced that it would "hit big" & provide themselves with a revenue stream that Gene couldn't taste. Bonnie's version got some airplay, but wasn't a huge hit, but.... yeah... money trickled in. At this time, Paul & Holly had broken up, so Holly figured that maybe another artist could take it & have more success with it (since she also got royalties). First up was Molly Hatchet. Didn't dent much. By now, Holly was dating Ace's drummer, Anton Fig & was tight with the entire band. After mentioning it to Anton, he told her to push it forward & "sell Ace" on the idea. Ace agreed, thinking that Paul & KISS had no plans to record the song. He really relished the idea of hitting this song out of the park, even if it meant big royalties for Paul. Because he'd have essentially thumped KISS' forehead for having been so stupid. After Ace had cut the track (having spent a considerable amount of money & time producing it), Gene & KISS' mgmt had learned that Ace had recorded it. Gene contacted Ace & asked him NOT to include it on his record, as it WAS being re-recorded by KISS, & was getting polished up & would be the FIRST SINGLE on KISS' new album. Ace said, "No way", but he knew then that it would be a dicey situation. Ultimately, this is A GREAT SONG, that really COULD have been a HUGE HIT for KISS - IF they'd done the intelligent thing, which would've been to have released it on the Crazy Nights album. THAT album blew chunks & it desperately needed a stand-out track. But with the colossal stupidity that "shelved" this song, it essentially got "covered" by three other artists (Bonnie Tyler, Molly Hatchet, & Ace Frehley) - BEFORE KISS could release what became the ultimate (i.e.- "original" version) of the song. By that point, it'd lost its potential to really become a "hit", along with the fact that this song was "MADE for the mid-80's era" & NOT the last quarter of 1989 - sliding into the 90s.

GlazzedAgain and why would ace frehley be allowed to record and release a song paul stanley wrote? Especially when the rumour is he was asked not to release it? Use your brain.. kiss and ace both covered a pre written song
@GlazzedAgain6 жыл бұрын
"Use your brain", well... try that yourself, Einstein. Why the hell would Ace NOT be allowed to record a song Paul Stanley wrote, even if Paul was the sole writer? Read this, and feel free to use your brain: "During the writing sessions for the "Crazy Nights" album Paul worked with two female writers who were having major successes on the airwaves. While only the collaboration with Diane Warren ("Turn On The Night") was used at the time, "Hide Your Heart," co-written with Holly Knight and Desmond Child would be demoed and rejected. With KISS not using the song in 1987 Paul offered it out to other artists to record. Numerous artists picked it up including Robin Beck, Molly Hatchet, Bonnie Tyler, and even Ace Frehley. Bonnie Tyler's version was released first, on 5/9/88 on her "Notes From America" album. It was followed by Molly Hatchet's, on their "Lightning Strikes Twice" album on 9/6/89, KISS' on 10/17/89, Ace Frehley's on 10/24/89, and finally Robin Beck's on 11/9/89. Paul also performed the song during his 1989 solo tour and received enough positive response to it to suggest that the song would be included on a KISS album."

Disagree. Bonnie Tyler's version sucks! And, it wasn't the right song for Molly Hatchet (a supremely talented band) to cover either. To her credit, Robin Beck gives us the ultimate "chick version" of this song, blowing Bonnie out of the water. But.... this really isn't "a chick song". KISS and ACE give this song the most appropriate versions - as they both bring the "NY groove" (i.e.- needed swagger) to it.
