Robin Miller was an extraordinary woman, and her story must be shared. Living for 12 years with metastatic breast cancer, through most of her 20s and until she was 34, Robin dedicated her life to helping others. A majority of her work was in Lymphedema. She ultimately revolutionized the Lymphedema industry through her "disruptive" work in co-founding LympheDIVAs, her ongoing work at the National Lymphedema Network, and more. Robin was a fighter and she'd be proud to be known as an all-around "bad ass". Her struggle was gargantuan, yet she powered through it sharp-tongued and unapologetic, fighting for the rights of patients and towards a cure. She is grateful to her family and friends, who she loved so dearly, and to the medical staff whom she turned into partners over time. You can experience Robin here in this video, just months before her hard fight came to an end. May we all carry with us the fearless nature of this woman. And as Robin would say, "Fuck Cancer."

new cancer treatments are helping fight this disease even more. I have a friend who has had stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that spread. With an experimental treatment drug, she is alive for about 10 year since diagnosis. I believe she had exceptional results, and that drug is used more widely now. Cancer can be beat, and sometimes it isn't. My thoughts to those dealing with it and those who did not make it. I am a cancer survivor , 10 yrs out, and I admire a fighter like Robin. She took action to help others while fighting. What a special person. RIP dear girl.

Devaststing for all who face such heartbreaking diagnosis and live with a grim prognosis. Not an easy challenge! As sad as it is, Robin has inspired and given hope to so many to valiantly fight this battle. It impacts not just one person but the entire family. Recently, a cousin of mine has been diagnosed with BC. COVID delayed her timely testing and treatment. She is alone, unemployed and has no insurance. We are helping her financially but cannot afford prohibitively expensive medication, such as, Ribociclib. But she seems to be responding favorably to Femara. We are there for her for emotional support as well, but it is still her battle. She is remarkably positive and handling it with stoic courage. I am filled with renewed respect for her. She, and others like her, don't deserve this. We may never understand why it happens to so many good people. All we can do it is to be supportive, be patient and understanding. Until a cure is found, or we know the prevention, no one should be left to feel alone, hopeless and helpless.

Metastatic BC is not always going to kill you. There are some newer drugs/treatments that some people get true remission from. I know someone like that. This fine young lady helped others with this video, in her work with lymphedema, etc. . What a warrior she was. So special

My mother died from peritoneal cancer a little over a month ago. We didn't even know she had it until the day before she died. She had been losing weight rapidly for about six months and she always said her stomach hurt but she was sure it was no big deal. Her stomach started swelling and she went to the hospital, where they said it was malignant acsites. Of course, I was shocked bc I know that malignant means cancer but she didn't have cancer as far as I knew at that time. She died the next morning after going into respiratory failure. Her tests came back a few days after her death and they showed she had peritoneal cancer that had spread to her lungs, kidneys, colon, and liver. They estimated she had been sick for over a decade and just didn't know it. It was so shocking and might as well have been a freak accident bc that's what it felt like. Cancer rips families apart and takes loved ones away for no reason at all. I hate it.

Anne Tacchino Thank you for the kind reply. I miss her like crazy, every single day. Some days it feels just as raw as it did the morning she died. Some days it's hard for me to even get out of bed bc I'm depressed just thinking about it but, I know I have to bc I have a 9 years old daughter, who is autistic, that depends on me everyday, so, I have to just push thru the grief. I just wish I knew when to expect it to get easier bc right now, it dosent feel like it will ever get any easier.

Andrea Jimenez It’s been 6 months since we lost Robin. I’m still waiting for it to feel easier. I don’t think it necessarily does, but it does start to become an added layer in your life experience. My advice would be to get a journal just for thoughts about her, and to get someone to talk to on a regular basis. Stay strong!

Anne Tacchino I have alot of ppl that are worried about me bc I am a recovering heroin addict, and when something bad happens to some that are in my shoes, they tend to relapse. I've been clean 16 years now, so I don't think about it much anymore but since my mom died, I have had a few weak moments where I have thought " you could just do a little and it would help the pain go away for awhile", but, I snap out of it when I see my daughter. I'm just trying to get to where I don't blame myself for not seeing the signs and making her go get treatment. That's what I'm having the most trouble with now.

Brooke M. I'm really sorry to hear about your mom. I really don't think that anyone is ever prepared to lose their mom, no matter what the circumstance. It is sort of strange that your mom passed away in November of 2017 bc my mother did as well. (November 18th, 2017, at 4:03am to be exact.) My grandfather, which was my mom's dad, and my grandmother, my mom's mom, both died on November 18th as well, years apart from one another. My grandmother died in 1995 of peritoneal cancer, the same as my mom, and my grandfather died in 2005 of bladder cancer. My great grandmother and great great grandmother, both, died of peritoneal cancer along with 2 aunts and 3 great aunts. It runs in my family, and hasn't skipped a generation yet. Each generation gets younger and younger. It scares me bc I know that I, will more than likely, end up in the same boat. I just hope that with my doctors help, I can get early testing done to try and catch it early. My anxiety is so out of control because of this, that whenever someone in my family gets a stomach ache, I'm already thinking to myself," omg, it's cancer!", and it really makes it hard to function bc of the anxiety. Do you ever get worried about getting breast cancer or your loved ones having it, bc of your mother's battle with It? If so, how do you stop yourself from getting upset or anxious about it?

@sprinklefriend
@sprinklefriend 6 жыл бұрын
No more ridiculous than the alternative, which is to believe that something came from nothing. That the world came about in an organized fashion not just randomly, but from literally nothing. Something is eternal & had no beginning: matter or a higher being. I choose to believe that the world didn't appear out of nowhere without being created, which implies a Creator. If you don't believe, maybe don't rain on the parade of those who do just for fun. If you think that's necessary, maybe look at your heart & ask why you want to drag people down when they've done nothing to deserve it.
