Absolutely brilliant, I found myself smiling all the way through. “His studs were for shins”, made me chuckle a bit as it reminded me of myself when I played local Saturday league football many moons ago.I’m sure there’s thousands of us out here identifying with this.🎼🎸🎤👍😀⚽️

@@BigEsBuskinBelters Cheers, Big E. In a local match; must be 50 years ago, between two churches, I tackled a curate who told me in Anglo Saxon English what he’d do to me if I threw my feet at his like that again. 🫤 I had no skill, just bulk. lol. Thank you for your kind comment, my friend. Appreciated.

A very appealing narrative song, Robin! I can relate to it inasmuch as I knew boys like Billy, who wanted to be professional footballers. One of them (the best player in our school) got signed by Peterborough United, and looked to be on his way. Alas, he suffered a badly broken leg, and complications ended his fledgling career. He ended up working in the same textile factory as me. Sad really. 😐👍🏐

@@roberthaigh3206 Thank you so much, Robert. What they say about plans and life is so true, my friend. I can only hope the boy from your school made the most of his new life. I’m pleased you enjoyed this one. Appreciated.

Many thanks, Dlynn. Memories of my childhood, my friend. Not the football, no, I was useless and always the last to be picked for one of the teams when we played games in the school yard. 😢 I'm pleased you enjoyed this one.

I've written two and was always useless playing the game, more someone who was slow and fouled a lot than someone with skill. 😀 I'm pleased you enjoyed the song, Elizabeth and Roger. Many thanks, my friends.

You have the ability to paint a picture with your songs. Without trying I was instantly able to imagine Billy. Think we all know a character such as Billy.

Another great song, Robin, I had to have a second listen! It's ice hockey here in Canada, but still an obsession, with all the good luck rituals. I spent so much time in the winters of my youth shoveling off the pond and skating in second hand skates. When I got older and moved to a warmer climate it was ball hockey in gyms until my knees couldn't take it any more. I'm sure once again what I get from this isn't necessarily your intent, haha.

Sounds chilly, my friend. 🙂 I suppose when I write I just want people to get from the words what they hear when they listen - if that makes sense. If they enjoy the song, that makes me happy. An old school friend, who a few years later became my next door neighbour, emigrated to Canada many Canadian winters ago. Thank you for your very welcome comment, Johnny. Much appreciated, my friend. Enjoy the ice hockey. It all looks somewhat dangerous to me. 🙂lol

@robinrendellwordman8182 Yes! I think Joni said that at one point, she hoped people could hear their own experiences in her music, although I'm not sure of the exact quote. It was a very cold pursuit, particularly outside in the winter. Grateful to live in a more moderate climate now, but those are good memories!
