Superboy used a few patches this episode specifically for x-ray vision to see through things. He doesn’t have x-ray vision without the patches. He does have infrared vision normally though which allows him to see heat signatures.

I just realized, Superboy makes dumber decisions when he's on the patches because he no longer has Lex's intelligence. Think about it, if it completely suppresses his human side he can no longer use the smarts he got from Lex, that's why Match was so violent too.

@@YaBoyRockLee I think your focusing too hard on the drug analogy with the patches. Remember Match was a clone with full Kyrptonian DNA and was wildly mentally unstable. The cloning of a Kyrptonian is very difficult and the reason Connor is stable is based on his human side stablizing him.

@@ryhnoking not really. The first time he used the patch he was fine. It got progressively worst. Conner was already prone to anger in season 1 to begin. I suspect a season 2 Conner wouldn’t be so full of rage btw. But at the end of the day. It’s not explicitly explained. I respect your opinion but it’s only an interpretation. Both us here just have an opinion of his behavior. Not a fact

If you think about, Match and Superboy without memories are just raw balls of anger. Superboy is calm because he learned to control his anger. Superboy slaps a patch to suppress his human side to temporarily become more kryptonian for x-ray vision, but loses his calm and so loses control of his anger. X-Ray vision starts to fade, but he’s still angry so he’s not thinking calmly so he’s more likely slap another patch to continue. Lex doesn’t need to lace the patches. They don’t need to be chemically addicting themselves, because the behavior they induce, the convenience and the anger, are themselves addicting. Lex is that type of controlling. Control the information. Don’t lie, just selectively tell the truth. People will trust you while still often doing what you want. Lex is scary yet he’s charming. I like him as a villain.

I wouldn't be shocked if this comment has come before, but the Shields Superboy uses are a lot like Slappers, which pop up in Batman Beyond. Addictive strength enhancers.

I think this is the episode where people are supposed to realize that super boy isn't "angry" all the time, he's frustrated all the time. It's like y'all said, he's supposed to have all these abilities, and it's easy to forget that he's aware of that. To finally have both an explanation for his constantly perceived completely inexplicable lack of performance and a convient solution to his problem... Forget for a second that this is the man who said, "Screw it, I'll just build my own Superman!" and followed it up with, "And, make those powers DLC!" What lex did was truly another level of evil!!
