1982 was also the year the two ABC daytime icons Anthony Geary and Robin Strasser won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Lead Actress for their roles as Luke Spencer and Dorian Lord on General Hospital and One Life to Live.

One of my fav awards stats! Not only did Strasser and Geary win in 1982, but it was also their second noms after having previously been nominated, and losing, the year prior {when the victors were Douglass Watson, winning his 2nd for AW and third overall, and Judith Light, winning her 2nd for OLTL}.

I remembered when she was the original Rachel on Another world a good actress.

I used to see her and then husband Laurence Luckinbill, all the time when they lived in Greenwich village. She was pregnant in 1968. She was friendly- he was not.

How can you NOT love La Strasser??? She's the "ONE LIFE" and Slezak is the "TO LIVE" as far as I'm concerned. Without one, there is just no show to be had. Period.

Ann Flood is such an elegant and talented lady! Her work on "Edge of Night" that year was outstanding! She's so beautiful!

She will always be the original Rachel on AW. So nice to see Judith Light cheer her on so enthusiastically. Light thought Strasser should have won the year before instead of her, and was outwardly shocked at that win.

Ya but Vicky Wyndham was excellent as Rachel and her rivalry with Iris made AW one of the most popular soaps in the 1970s.

Robin deserved this and more; as Erika so graciously noted in her many acceptance speeches how important Robin was to her work. I am sure Erika considered them co-winners especially during the DID storyline of 95-96. Brava, ladies! There will never be another daytime dynamic duo like Erika Slezak and Robin Strasser!

So much to love about this clip. First the fab Robin looking so excited like her expression is damn finally lol Bob woods in the back looking very very handsome I only knew bo as an older guy what a cutie. Love Judith light still on the show in the hat clapping it up in support and the old music of the show and the 80s styles plus a soap that I wasn't alive when around edge of night ( great name ) thank u for this. I believe Tony geary won his 1st emmy thar year . Two legends winning their first emmys

I agree, if emmys were given out in the 60's, she easily would have won at least a supporting actress emmy for Another World............simply the best villaness in the late 60's.

@JONROSE44 She is very deserving, but I think I recall reading an interview she did in which she revealed that since this win, she has never submitted her name for Emmy consideration. It was great to see Robin nominated alongside Ann Flood and Sharon Gabet from Edge of Night. All three are phenomenally talented icons of daytime.
@miggy2513 жыл бұрын
Robin has indeed stopped submitting her name for Emmy consideration years ago so that others could experience the thrill of winning....she would've won many more Emmy Awards since this one if she weren't such a class act....I wish other superstars in daytime who have won armfuls of awards would take a step back like Robin did so the Academy can recognize so many of those all-time greats who've never won...as opposed to the same people winning time after time after time

She submitted a few times under the Daytime Emmy pre-nomination system [for ceremonies in 2003-2020; which would just be the years of 2003-2012, 2014 for OLTL]. Each year each soap would submit two contenders for each acting category that had been voted on by the cast [so if 5 people were submitting in Lead, only the names of the top 2 (top 3 in 2008) would be released] and that group would advance to the next round of voting. Robin Strasser was one of the OLTL Lead Actress pre-noms for ceremonies in 2006 (w/ Erika Slezak) & 2008 (w/ both Kassie DePaiva and Erika Slezak). No one from OLTL received a final nom in 06 and 08. Strasser was also one of the OLTL Supporting Actress pre-noms for the ceremony in 2011 (w/ Bree Williamson, who ended up receiving a final nom, which was actually her 3rd consecutive). I’ve always wondered if Strasser submitted the other years and didn’t have as many votes, or if she just altogether didn’t submit. With a few exceptions, the OLTL Lead Actress prenom-slots always went to Kassie DePaiva (who received a nom in 05) and Erika Slezak (who received noms in 05, which she won, and in 2012).

I would have loved for all time favorite Sharon Gabet from "Edge of night" to win. Loved her Raven character! The best! When that soap was canned ABC quickly offered Miss. Gabot a role on "Oltl" but she turned it down and instead accepted a role on "Another world" that ONLY lasted 6 months. The character "Oltl" offered Miss Gabot was Echo. Kim Zimmerman was hired for that role. Sharon said years later she regretted that decision. A few years later Sharon was hired by "Oltl" to portray Melinda Creamer, Dorian sister. Atb that time Robin Strasser was not on the show. The character Dorian was written off the soap. The Melinda character had a lot of potential but the writers waited the effort and 9 months into the role Sharon was fired. They didn't even explain where Melinda went. One day she was just gone. Months later Dorian returned by Elain Printzi was cast as Dorian. Bad news came to Dorian that Melinda died. Nothing was shown on camera, no flashbacks..... It was very weird!

Sharon hated the experience on AW and was more than happy to leave. I don't know what happened on OLTL but it might have been the same thing. She is a very talented actress and her role was similar to that of Erica on AMC and Dorian on OLTL and she did deserve an Emmy for it.

@@jamessullivan1714 Sharon's work on OLTL" did not deserve an Emmy! Not that Sharon is NOT a great actress but the writing at that time was dreadful!!!!

it must have been so hard to win an Emmy as their were a ton of soaps on during that time. now with only 4 u got a much better chance . can't believe robin only won one . shes incredible . Erika slezak has 6 she prob coukd have mopped up every year . poor susan Lucci nominated like 19 years in a row but that's still an honor to be nominated that much she had seriously stiff competition every year and had the misfortune if going up against Erika for years . these must have been great days as soaps were in their hey day and it was on TV now it's not even on TV

Her predecessors in the Dorian role were also excellent. The one right before her was outstanding. So was the original as well.

That was a tough year. How did you pick out of that crowd?
@JONROSE448 жыл бұрын
+Melanie Daniels yes, indeed that was a tough year back in 1982 in the soap world's heyday. However, Strasser was my all time favorite and she really did perform at the top of her game during that time. I'm still thrilled today, 34 years later that she won that year!
@melaniedaniels72988 жыл бұрын
+Jonathan Richards My all time favorite was Brynn Thayer but I don't even know if she was ever nominated. That year I would have picked Leslie but glad Robin won. As One Life to Life would be next to nothing without her. I love her professionalism even when she accepts an award "every good daytime performer knows how to take a speed up and we've got one...."
