From a hot-headed winger to arguably the world's best striker at his peak. PFA POTY, Golden Boot winner from 30 goals during his last season at the club as captain. Truly did drag Arsenal into the top 4 after the departures of Nasri and Fabregas. Many older fans despise him, but there's always the set of fans who grew up watching and idolising such players. Sure, their legacies should have been different. But you cannot deny the quality they all had which enticed us all into the club we all love.

Of course Im a bit prejudiced as a Dutchie, but the Messi's and Mbappe's, I never cared much about players like this. To me, it was all about Dennis and Robin. Robin van Persie was truly one of the most technically gifted players to ever play for the club. He scored 132 goals, and 55 assists in 278 games. The 3rd greatest goalscorer for Arsenal in the Premier League era, after Wright and Henry. van Persie was not offered a new contract in 2012, after disagreements with chief executive Ivan Gazidis on the future of the club.

@@rcmanization no incorrect. The club clearly said to him we won't fulfill your demand and you can leave. Van persie wanted to win trophies at arsenal and asked the club to sign 'big name' players but club refused and showed no ambition. And time proved that club actually hadn't Got any ambition that's why instead of improving from annual 3rd 4th league positions, we are seeing the club is finishing 8th and below. Van persie was so right , the club and the board didn't have any ambition and were pathetic liars when they said 'we want to compete with bayern at the highest level'.
@rcmanization
@rcmanization 3 жыл бұрын
@@farhanathar2256 the club never told him "you can leave". You're just trying to create your own narrative here. The club not buying big name players doesn't equal them actually telling him that he can leave nor not offering him a new contract. He was offered a contract but didn't wanna sign it. Arsenal waited to renegotiate later when there would be just 1 year left, but by then he had already met up with Man United behind Wenger's back and a few months later in the summer he told the club he wanted to leave for Man United.
@farhanathar2256
@farhanathar2256 3 жыл бұрын
@@rcmanization that's the narrative few of the fans built themselves without even reading actual news about what happened just because they wanted to hate van Persie because of that move. Absolutely incorrect. Van Persie held the meeting with hierarchy before he left just to discuss the ambition of the club and whether club gonna provide him with what he wanted for the club and that was 'big name' signings and willingness to win big trophies. If he wanted to just leave arsenal, he wouldn't have held any meeting. Why would he meet with gazidiz etc? Use your brain. Yes we hated that move, I hate man united more than you so that transfer made me sick for months. I absolutely hated seeing him in man utd shirt but all that doesn't change facts which preceded his transfer. Go and read authentic articles before blindly making up things just because you hate what happened. Van Persie loved arsenal, he knew what the club meant probably because he played alongside the likes of Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, ljunberg who all loved arsenal so he had love for arsenal far more than your latest heroes like Sanchez, ozil who didn't give a Damn about the fans and the club but van Persie did but club let him down and let him down big time. His meeting with them was a proof of that, and lack of ambition was proved in years to come when we declined so massively because the club just didn't want to win but was only interested in money.

11:06 With the inside of his foot. His technique and power was something else. I imagine goalkeepers being surprised by the power of his shot every time. He always got a fair amount more power in his shots than you would expect based on body position and available space. Like his volley against Liverpool. Reina was a great keeper, and when he saw that RvP was shooting with the inside of his foot, be probably thought he had the inside post covered...

But Wenger pulled him aside shortly before Sunday's friendly victory over Cologne, told him he would be sold if a deal could be reached and informed the Dutchman he was no longer part of his plans." ^ This is from David Ornstein's article here: www.bbc.com/sport/football/19179833 This is the biggest "What if" for me. What if we kept van Persie and rolled the dice? Would we have won the league? Would he have extended his contract? A fascinating scenario. Van persie is one of Arsenals great players and even though he went ahead to play for Manu for a bit, he still remains one of my best gooner. He should be in arsenals hall of fame.

Paul here from Nigeria, Every time I watch or remember the kind of player he was at my BELOVED Arsenal and then the way he left to United, I have mix feeling; don't know whether to love him or to hate him but that being said: too much class Van Persie too much class.

They did not offer him a contract and they did not allow him to move to Juve (while they did allow Henry to go to Barca earlier and is hated far less for it, b/c it's a foreign club, but RvP was denied by Arsenal to go abroad). If you decide to hate on RVP (which you have not (yet)), you also must hate the board who cornered him into the decision to move to United. Besides, if a player is not good enough, then Arsenal will bench or sell him. Clubs are not loyal to mediocrity, so why is it expected that players are when the tables are turned? RVP was chosen as the best player of EPL when he was at Arsenal. He wanted to win titles with Arsenal, but they wanted to be the best book balancers of the league. They sold their best players each season. Then the question becomes: should a player like RvP have gone back to his home country without a single EPL trophy? There are horrible players out there with far more titles than RvP and that is an injustice as well. RvP was a wonderful player and one of the best strikers the EPL has ever seen. He deserved far more titles than what he eventually got.

The man that causes me to remember why I fell in love with Arsenal. As a kid from Germany where his favourite club never really played on a tuesday or wednesday evening (CL) I became in love with his style of football, and loved watching him play. quickly after, I started to like and cheer for arsenal more everyday.

Despite all the work he did for us, still most of his seasons were marred by injuries, can't remember a season where he completed without being injured except the one prior to Ferguson snapping him up. Arsenal Legend. Man United cannot claim him despite winning the league there.

He didn’t betray us. He dedicated his youth for Gunners 8 years long. He brought ascension by highlights at all time when he stayed and saved Arsenal when we fell down hard. We, however, couldn’t give him anything but applause. He must leave to reward himself. He deserved at least an EPL title and he did it. For real, I didn’t feel hurt when he left Arsenal in 2012. I felt happy for him on the other hand. He’s still in the Hall of Fame, always alongside Arsenal in my memories.
